Title - 'Son of Schmilsson: Expanded' (RCA/Legacy)
Artist - Harry Nilsson
Put it this way - this was a very good album that has now been made even better! The sound on this CD is stunning. I think you might be able to pick up the sound of a pin dropping in the studio (if indeed one was dropped)! It was great to hear the early, alternate take of "Take 54" along with the other 3+ bonus tracks. Liner notes in the CD booklet are a nice touch, with various comments from people like Peter Frampton, Ringo, Richard Perry, etc. on the making of the album. If you like Harry Nilsson (and who shouldn't) you will love the way this album showcases his songwriting, his incredible vocal styles, his wit and humor. As for the release itself, well, it was rare to find a follow up as good (if not better than) the album that preceded it. In today's disposable pop culture world it's becoming rarer still. That's why it's great to report that Harry's follow up to his classic 1972 album Nilsson Schmilsson is just as terrific. Harry began dismantling his musical persona with this album (and the previous). He began to branch out into untested waters as an artist. Spaceman, Turn on your Radio, Remember Christmas and You're Breaking My Heart all feature Harry's wry wit and deft way with words. Buy this expanded edition today and hear it all for yourself.
