Title - 'Diamonds in the Dark' (Sugarhill)
Artist - Sarah Borges
I was walking down the street in Seattle and heard a band playing at one of those lunch time concert things. The music is usually so bad at those shows that I run away, but this time I heard the loveliest voice echoing around concrete and glass "park." I was hooked. I wandered over to watch the band, and it was even better than I had hoped.
Sarah and her top-notch band were exhausted from travel, but rockin' out and having so much fun that the crowd kept growing and growing. I bought the 'Diamonds in the Dark' CD after the concert, and they're every bit as good in the studio as they are live.
Upon my return back to MI - and to the offices here - I found this gem of a CD in the stack ready for reviewing ... and so couldn't resist! Whether she's wailing louder than her guitar onslaught or purring softly she is in full command. This is ROCK at its very best. Yesterday I heard Nick Lowe on the radio and he said that there is nothing new worth listening to. Someone give this guy a copy of this CD. Hell, Sarah could've been in Rockpile! Nick, do yourself a favor and check this out!
Basically, this is a rich, varied disc with a lot of heart. Buy it! You won't be disappointed.
