Title - 'I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story' (OST)
Artist - Joshua Johnson

This heartwarming documentary chronicles the life of Caroll Spinney, the man who has been Sesame Street's Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch since 1969. It's an acclaimed and very touching film with a beautiful score by Joshua Johnson, (The Maze Runner, 21 & Over).

'I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story' brings to life the man behind the costume, Caroll Spinney, who for over 4 decades has brought us - through all our growing pains - characters that have been cherished by generations of children. At 81 years old, the tenacious and enthusiastic performer has no intention of slowing down.

Josh Johnson is a super talented composer, with a positive, upbeat, non-intrusive attitude. One who’s knowledge and professionalism is on par with anyone around, about his work for Caroll Spinney, the man himself has been quoted as saying, “The music is the perfect accompaniment to the emotions throughout the movie" He actually went on to say that, "My wife Deb and I listen to the soundtrack on our travels," which is a HUGE testament to Johnson's work here.

Johnson most recently scored WE MUST GO, a feature documentary chronicling the journey of the Egyptian Nation Soccer team and coach Bob Bradley as they fight to reach the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In this documentary, Frank Oz mentions that Caroll gives Big Bird’s character a ‘child-like innocence,’ which was obviously something Johnson latched on to for his work. For his scoring process here is smattered with infused elements that bring forth a gentle sense of naive wonderment, emotion, and sentimentality.

In truth, Johnson himself has been quoted as saying, "I only hope I did Caroll and Big Bird justice," but anyone who sees the documentary, and listens to the score underneath, carrying it along beautifully, will know Johnson has nothing whatsoever to worry about. Two thumbs up, as they say.
