Title - 'Midnight Machines'
Artist - Lights

For those not in the know, here's what you should know about this singer/songwriter: Lights (born Valerie Anne Poxleitner) is a Canadian musician, singer, and songwriter with some of her notable singles including "Drive My Soul", "February Air", "Ice", "Second Go", "Toes", and "Up We Go". Touring extensively to support her recordings, in 2009, she was awarded the Juno Award for New Artist of the Year.

Lights won Indie Awards in the Favourite Solo Artist and Astral Media Radio Favourite Single categories during Canadian Music Week in March 2009 in Toronto. She also won the Best New Artist Awards in the Hot AC and CHR categories. All awards were for her debut single "Drive My Soul," except the award for Favourite Solo Artist. In November 2010, her debut album The Listening was given a gold certification by the Canadian Recording Industry Association for sales of 40,000 units.

Well, as a new fan of Lights, I have to say that all these songs are amazing. They somehow make me feel a gamut of emotions, but the most prominent one is hope. The blend of the melodies, lyrics and some supernatural secret sauce makes me slow down and smile when I hear them. I can’t explain it, but it’s happening, and it’s beautiful. I feel hopeful as I hear these songs.

Soft guitar chords are balanced by subtle strings and combine with infectious melodies and a voice that’s both intimate and captivating. It’s all just so beautiful, the soundtrack at the end of a long day and you just want to slip on a pair of your favorite headphones and sink into the bed. This album is absolutely beautiful and it makes me wonder what I must have missed in between! So happy with Midnight Machines and, once you buy it yourself, I'm sure you will be also.
