Title - 'The Long Road Home'
Artist - Jeff Beal

A Limited Edition 2CD set of just 500 copies, this quite brilliant 'The Long Road Home - National Geographic Original Series' soundtrack from sterling composer Jeff Beal is, most definitely, one for the musical ages.

Based on journalist Martha Raddatz's same-named best-seller, "The Long Road Home" dramatizes the heroism on the front lines of the Iraq War. On April 4, 2004 -- a day that came to be known in military annals as "Black Sunday" -- the 1st Cavalry Division from Fort Hood was brutally ambushed, an incident that changed the U.S. military's view of Iraq from a peacekeeping mission to a fight against domestic insurgents.

Across eight episodes, the series cuts between the battle in Iraq and the homefront in Texas, where wives and families anxiously await news for 48 agonizing hours. "The Long Road Home" is developed by Mikko Alanne and stars Michael Kelly, Jason Ritter, Kate Bosworth, Sarah Wayne Callies, Jeremy Sisto and Noel Fisher, Jon Beavers, E.J. Bonilla, Jorge Diaz, Darius Homayoun and Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Disc One:
1. The Mission (3:17) 2. The Long Road Home (1:32) 3. Israel & Lupita (:54) 4. The Ambush Begins (10:02) 5. Last Rites for Chen (4:05) 6. Riddell’s First Kill (2:00) 7. Leann & Gary Volesky (1:18) 8. Just a Boy (1:48) 9. Faith (4:39) 10. The Rescue Begins (4:30) 11. Narrow Streets (:52) 12. Start Making Calls (2:36) 13. It’s Too Late (1:43) 14. A Gathering Of Ravens (2:10) 15. Jassim (2:16) 16. Disc Two:
1. You Can Tell Them (2:41) 2. Rescue Misses (1:59) 3. Eric Enlists (4:25) 4. Miltenberger’s Ghost (2:21) 5. Crying Doesn’t Help (3:38) 6. Finding The Soldiers (5:09) 7. Here We Go (1:28) 8. Dreaming of Coming Home (5:58) 9. Hope (1:14) 10. A Thousand Steps (1:45) 11. Dream Of Me (2:03) 12. Another Mission (2:11) 13. Roll Call Of The Dead (2:18) 14. Taps — End Credits (:59) 15. Brothers In Arms (1:33)

As you would already fully expect from Jeff Beal, the album is extraordinary from start to finish. Both discs harbor some fine works of musical art, whereas both sides capture the density of the subject matter quite like nothing I've ever heard before.
