Title - 'In The Groove'
Artist - Barry Goldberg

For those not in the know, which you can admittedly count me a part of, Barry Goldberg is a blues and rock keyboardist, songwriter and highly-revered record producer.

As a teenager in Chicago, Goldberg sat in with Muddy Waters, Otis Rush, and Howlin' Wolf and he also played keyboards with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band backing Bob Dylan during his 1965 newly 'electrified' appearance at the Newport Folk Festival.

Indeed, he formed The Electric Flag with Mike Bloomfield in 1967, and later formed the Barry Goldberg Reunion in 1968.

Goldberg's songs (some of which co-written with Gerry Goffin) have been recorded by many musicians including Rod Stewart, Gladys Knight, Joe Cocker, Steve Miller, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Gram Parsons and B. J. Thomas.

For the last five years Goldberg has performed as one third of the Rides, with Stephen Stills and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, touring widely and topping Billboard's blues chart with the albums Can't Get Enough and Pierced Arrow.

With In the Groove, released June 15th, 2018 via Sunset Blvd Records, Goldberg has realized his long-held ambition of cooking on both a B-3 and a piano to bring forth a compelling mix of new, first-rate originals and revisited instrumental classics from the late Fifties and early Sixties.

1. 'Guess I Had Enough Of You'
2. 'The Mighty Mezz'
3. 'Westside Girl'
4. 'In The Groove'
5. 'Mighty Low'
6. 'Dumplin's'
7. 'Ghosts In My Basement'
8. 'Bullwhip Rock'
9. 'Lazy'
10. 'Tall Cool One'
11. 'Slow Walk'
12. 'Alberta'

This wonderful, vibrantly alive 12-track instrumental album (save for the lead track, 'Guess I Had Enough of You,' a politically charged track that features a tight vocal line from jazz great Les McCann), is as good as it comes in this genre, of that have no doubt.

Inclusive of five new songs specifically composed for the album along with some rather more classic tracks, not forgetting some interestingly obscure cuts re: Snooks Eaglin, Sil Austin, The Cyclones, Johnny & The Hurricanes, Milt Bruckner, and Doc Bagby and The Wailers (the Tacoma garage band, not the more famous Bob Marley-front group).

Goldberg is on piano, Hammond B3 organ and Wurlitzer piano with backing from Denny Freeman (guitar), Tony Marsico (bass) Don Heffington (drums), Rob Stone (harmonica), James Intveld (guitar), Joe Sublett (sax), Darrell Leonard (trumpet), Johnny Lee Schell (guitar), Reggie McBride (bass), Craig Fundyga (vibes), Victor Bisetti (percussion), and Nawfel Hermi (guitar).
