Title - 'Sunburst Finish: Expanded & Remastered'
Artist - Be-Bop Deluxe

For those not in the know, Be-Bop Deluxe were an English progressive rock band who achieved critical acclaim and moderate commercial success during the mid to late 1970s.

The band's sound emerged as a mixture of glam rock, prog rock and straightforward rock and roll. Indeed, Science fiction imagery was common in the lyrics, along with the more traditional themes of love and the human condition.

Digitally remastered and now an expanded 2CD edition, Sunburst Finish, the legendary 1976 album by Be-Bop Deluxe, has now been re-released via Esoteric Recordings / Cherry Red Records (UK).

Featuring an additional 17 bonus tracks drawn from a stunning new stereo mix from the original multi-track tapes by award winning engineer Stephen W. Tayler and previously unreleased out-takes from the album sessions, Starburst Finish was originally recorded in the Autumn of 1975 at Abbey Road studios (with some sessions also taking place at AIR studios in London).

For those who are interested, the first three Be-Bop Deluxe albums are all, in one way or another, named after guitars. "Axe" is slang for a guitar, "Futurama" is a particular make of guitar, while "Sunburst Finish" refers to a style of finishing for the instrument.

Kicking off in some guitar-flaring style with the pop sensibilities of 'Fair Exchange' (which also has a definitive pubescent Queen vibe to it), Sunburst Finish was the third album by Be-Bop Deluxe.

The first to feature the line-up of Bill Nelson (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Charlie Tumahai (bass, vocals), Andy Clark (keyboards) and Simon Fox (drums) it was also the first Be-Bop album to be co-produced by Bill Nelson and John Leckie.

The more sedate 'Heavenly Homes' is up next and is backed by the brilliant hipsway pop flow of 'Ships In The Night,' the quiet Prog of 'Crying To The Sky,' and then both the fast paced 'Sleep That Burns' and the low key Renaissance appeal of 'Beauty Secrets.'

The soaring, flowing guitar weaving 'Life In The Air Age' is a gentle work of Prog wonderment and that's followed by both the finger snappin' 'Like An Old Blues' and the trippy 'Crystal Gazing.' The album, now here as the original stereo mix remastered, rounds out with the anthemic 'Blazing Apostles,' before the first CD finishes with the bonus track, 'Ships In The Night' (Single Version).

The second CD features all the same songs, all be they now recorded as 28 stereo mixes and tags on several previously unreleased bonus tracks. The first of those is 'Ships In The Night' (First Version), 'Beauty Secrets' (First Version), and a three minute acoustic guitar and vocal 'The Mystery Demo.'

The second CD then rounds out with the trio of 'Crystal Gazing' (Alternate Vocal Version), 'Crying To The Sky' (First Version), and 'Ships In The Night' (Alternate Vocal Version).'

The quite magnificent set also features a booklet which restores the original album artwork and includes previously unseen photographs and an essay of recollections by Bill Nelson.
