Title - Time Took Care of It
Artist - Danny Fox Trio

For those unaware, revered for “changing the sound and expectation of a jazz piano trio (John Schaefer, WNYC’s New Sounds),” the Danny Fox Trio releases its fourth album Time Took Care of It on April 7th, 2023 via Adhyaropa Records.

Since its critically acclaimed 2011 debut, The One Constant (Songlines), the group has continued to push the boundaries of the classic piano trio format.

Composer/pianist Danny Fox draws upon his considerable talents melding jazz and modern classical music on his latest album containing some of the most poignant and creative compositions of his career.

Employing his long-time trio comprising bassist Chris van Voorst van Beest and drummer Max Goldman, the album showcases the group’s unique signature sound fueled by their wide-ranging interests in chamber music, bluegrass, and rhythm and blues, and anchored by their roots in jazz.

This melodically-infused, smile-evoking new recording opens on the softly agile Altbauer and the delightfully structured So Long Mel, and then we get the charmingly elegant Very Cool Guy, the coquettish Fruit Fly, the melodically-hued The Ogres, and then come the sprightly Dr. Bob and the luxuriously-tones within Slow Ham.

Up next is the dedicated precision of craft shown throughout the mesmerizing Chive Tie, which is itself backed seamlessly by the coyly opulent Cherney Method, and then we are presented one of my own personal favorites from the recording, the upbeat, perky and gently rambunctious Here He Comes, and they are in turn backed by the stylized Guaranteed Sharks, the buoyant swish within Jewish Cowgirl, the album rounding out on the cinematic tension built within Something in the Shed and the free-flowing, and titular Time Took Care of It (For Papa Joe), coming to a close on the drum-led rhythms within Post Val.
