Title - KISS – Off The Soundboard: Poughkeepsie, NY 1984
Artist - KISS

For all those unaware, on April 7th, 2023, rock icons KISS will release the next installment of their Off The Soundboard official live bootleg series with KISS – Off The Soundboard: Poughkeepsie, New York, 1984.

Recorded live at the Mid-Hudson Arena on November 28th, 1984, during the Animalize World Tour, this is the fifth in a series of live releases by the band and will be available to stream and download, with a 2-LP standard black vinyl set, CD, and a limited edition 2-LP set pressed on 180g custard yellow vinyl which are available to pre-order now exclusively through the Official KISS online store, HERE.

The multi-platinum band’s fifth authorized Soundboard live release comes from the November 28th, 1984 Animalize Tour show at the Mid-Hudson Arena in Poughkeepsie, NY, featuring the only known soundboard recording with guitarist Mark St. John.

While the tracks “Young And Wasted” and “Rock And Roll All Nite” from this historic show are incomplete due to a tape change and tape space – these recordings were originally for archival use – this live recording is of historical importance due to St. John’s appearance.

Side 1:
1. Detroit Rock City
2. Cold Gin
3. Creatures Of The Night
4. Fits Like A Glove

After the usual throaty band introduction to the baying crowd, the first side of this momentously-fantastic live album begins with their set-in-stone opener, the thunderous Detroit Rock City and then launches onward from there into the Simmons-growled rocker Cold Gin, next a song dedicated to all the people that come out at night, the melodic Creatures Of The Night (complete with Paul’s falsetto gymnastics), and a highly underrated track, the Stones-esque R ’N’ R of the Simmons-sung Fits Like A Glove.

Side 2:
5. Heaven’s On Fire
6. Guitar Solo
7. Under The Gun
8. War Machine
9. Drum Solo

Flipping the first vinyl over, and next up the no-makeup era (which I actually musically loved) continues onward with the rhythmically-charged Heaven’s On Fire, a raging guitar solo from Mark St. John, complete with some additional influence from Stanley, of course, then comes the Motley Crue-esque Under The Gun, the drum-led War Machine, and the first vinyl runs out with more from Eric Carr on his drum solo.

Side 3:
1. Young and Wasted (Incomplete)
2. Bass Solo
3. I Love It Loud
4. I Still Love You
5. Love Gun

Swapping the vinyl over on the turntable, up first on the third side is the maniacal Carr-sung Young and Wasted (albeit, as noted, incomplete), and then comes the Gene Simmons bass solo moment that everyone has been waiting for, before the side rounds out with a Simmon’s growled bit of crowd invoking before he himself lurches into I Love It Loud, a gut wrenching, powerful, and genuine ballad I Still Love You (written about Donna Dixon, who Paul dated back in the day), the side ending with the powerful guitars and Carr drumming of Love Gun.

Side 4:
6. Black Diamond
7. Oh! Susanna
8. Lick It Up
9. Rock and Roll All Nite (Incomplete)

Flipping the second vinyl over, first out the speakers are the screaming guitars and Carr-vocals of the much-beloved live show gem Black Diamond and that is backed by their guitar-licking, countrified take on the jaunty rock-bounce of Oh! Susanna, the entire live recording coming to a close on the catchy, punchy, melodic rocker Lick It Up (yet another of their songs that had the amazing capability to make everyone happy, sing along and smile all day), the set closing on a song that tells us all exactly what rock and roll is all about, the ultimate crowdpleaser, albeit incomplete, the Simmons-sung Rock and Roll All Nite.

Off The Soundboard: Poughkeepsie, New York finds the legendary band in the midst of the U.S. leg of their successful Animalize World Tour with the short-lived lineup of Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Eric Carr, and guitarist Mark St. John.

The career-spanning 18-song set includes current-era KISS tracks such as “Creatures Of The Night,” “I Love It Loud,” “Lick It Up,” and 1984’s “Heaven’s On Fire,” which hit No. 49 U.S. Billboard chart. Poughkeepsie, New York also features perennial KISS anthems “Detroit Rock City,” “Love Gun,” and “Rock And Roll All Nite” from their classic back catalog.

KISS are globally recognized as one of the greatest live bands of all time and are the creators of what is universally considered the best live album ever, 1975’s gold-certified and No. 9 Billboard charting Alive!. The KISS – Off The Soundboard series continues their storied legacy of groundbreaking live albums with a document of the spectacular, larger-than-life extravaganza that is a KISS concert.

Known for their trademark performances, KISS has proven for decades why they are hands down the most iconic live show in rock n roll. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. Peerless as a live act, the band’s illustrious legacy has been marked by record breaking global tours during a remarkable 50-year career.
