Title - After We Play
Artist - Johnny Britt

For those not in the know, Johnny Britt has just released his brand new album, entitled After We Play (March 17th, 2023) which features, amongst others, the award winning guitarist Peter White, Will Downing, Gerald Albright and George Benson.

Britt was hired by Otis Williams as the youngest ever musical director of the Motown Super Group The Temptations which led to Britt being the co-music producer of the Emmy Award Winning TV miniseries The Temptations.

Britt then signed to Motown/ MoJazz Records with his own critically acclaimed group Impromp2 which released 4 albums. Britt recently scored Big as the solo trumpet player in the Oscar Nominated Motion Picture Hidden Figures with Hans Zimmer as well as an on camera solo trumpet performance with Ryan Gosling in the Oscar Nominated Motion Picture La La Land.

Britt has worked with Annie Lennox as the trumpet soloist for her PBS Special and has also worked with Qunicy Jones, David Bowie, Josh Groban, Jennifer Lopez, Maxwell as well as singing at the Oscars with John Legend, Common and Mary J. Blige.

And Britt is also an honorary member of the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame as a current member of the legendary singing group Little Anthony and The Imperials.

1. Ain’t Nothin’ But The Funk (feat. Tom Browne)
2. After We Play (feat. Peter White)
3. Butterflies (feat. Will Downing)
4. Summer Love (feat. Gerald Albright and Kashan)
5. Ocean Waves (feat. Blair Bryant)
6. Walk On By
7. Hold On Be Strong (feat. Ricky Peterson)
8. Let’s Do This (feat. Nils)
9. Goin’ Out Of My Head (feat. Little Anthony and George Benson)
10. Love Paradise
11. Midnight
12. More Love

This beautifully crafted, and divinely-hued new recording (whose album title is a phrase taken from Miles Davis, who has influenced Britt to become the visionary that he is today), opens on the aptly-named funky grooves within Ain’t Nothin’ But The Funk (featuring Tom Browne) and then moves seamlessly into one of the most smoothly relaxing tracks that I have heard in the past decade, the simply sumptuous After We Play (featuring Peter White), and then comes a vocally beautiful blast from my past, the wonderful Will Downing singing on the dulcet Butterflies, the beautifully free flowing, hot breeze of Summer Love (featuring Gerald Albright and Kashan), the laid back hipsway within Ocean Waves (featuring Blair Bryant), and then we get the sultry, heat-driven balladry of Walk On By.

The 12 smooth groove tracks continue lovingly onward with the softly-sung, low slung melodies within Hold On Be Strong (featuring Ricky Peterson) and then the rhythms are turned back up for the perky Let’s Do This (feat. Nils), and then comes another of my own personal favorites, the lavishly opulent Goin’ Out Of My Head (featuring Little Anthony and George Benson), which is itself backed by the elegantly luxurious Love Paradise, the album rounding out on the lush, late night soiree of Midnight, closing on the languishing magnificence of More Love.

Musicians:
