Title - The L.A. Session [Vinyl 2LP]
Artist - Paul Kuhn

IN+OUT Records continues its Vinyl Release Program with reissues by Ron Carter & Richard Galliano, Larry Coryell, Roberta Gambarini and Paul Kuhn.

All four albums, which are available now, are made with 180-gram Black Virgin Vinyl and pressed at Germany’s premium pressing plant, Optimal Media.

The albums, which all include High Quality Glossy Finished Gatefold Covers and Poly-lined and Printed Inner Sleeves, were mastered at Organic Studio in Germany by Thorsten Scheffner.

Furthermore, some of the albums are released as Limited Audiophile Signature Edition: Original Signature by Artist, Hand-numbered, Limited to 999 or 1999 copies worldwide.

For those unaware, for his 85th birthday, on March 12th, 2013, Paul Kuhn granted himself the fulfillment of a long-lasting dream: In November 2011 he traveled to the legendary Capitol studios in L.A. where he was taken care of by the seven-fold Grammy award-winner Al Schmitt, sound engineer for Henry Mancini’s “Breakfast At Tiffany’s“ as well as for George Benson and Ray Charles, to name but a few.

In this magical place, Kuhn sang into the same microphone as Frank Sinatra had once done and was backed by drummer Jeff Hamilton and bassist John Clayton, who were then working with Diana Krall, on the just-released The L.A. Session.

This is the Deluxe Edition: The Complete Session, re-mastered from the original recordings.

Side A:
1. Almost The Blues
2. Just In Time
3. Close Your Eyes
4. You’ve Changed

Side B:
5. On A Clear Day
6. Griff
7. Dinah

The first of the Deluxe Edition: The Complete Session, re-mastered from the original recordings vinyl double set, one that is, overall, a delightful masterpiece of a recording, opens on the flirtatious, yet cultured shuffle of Almost The Blues and the rhythmic finger-snapper Just In Time, before we are given the gently fervent swing of Close Your Eyes and the yearning balladry of You’ve Changed.

Then we get the luxuriant On A Clear Day and the drum-led Griff, which are in turn backed by the simply beautiful Dinah.

Side C:
1. Speak Low
2. Emily
3. There Will Never Be Another You
4. My Heart Stood Still

Side D:
5. Ornithology
6. People
7. As Time Goes By
8. Don’t Mean A Thing
9. My World Of Music

Putting this devastatingly handsome, impassioned and heartfelt second vinyl of the set on the turntable, along next is the furtive, yet complete with a lovely perkiness, Speak Low and then comes the aching piano ballad Emily, the earnest There Will Never Be Another You and the side rounds out on the finger-snapping, foot-tapping My Heart Stood Still.

And closing the show on the fourth side, and in some mighty fine style, the tracks before are followed seamlessly by the free-flowing musical majesties found within Ornithology and the quietly strident People, and then they are in turn followed by the dulcet As Time Goes By, the stunningly vibrant, highly ardent Don’t Mean A Thing, the album coming to an impassioned close with the delightful swing vibe found within My World Of Music.

Musicians:
Roberta Gambarini - vocals
James Moody - tenor sax & vocal
Tamir Hendelman - piano
Gerald Clayton - piano
John Clayton - bass
Chuck Berghofer - bass
Willie Jones III - drums
Joe La Barbera - drums
