Title - Random Access Memories [10th Ann.]
Artist - Daft Punk

For those unaware, 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of Daft Punk’s multi Grammy winning hit record Random Access Memories, which included: Get Lucky, Instant Crush, Lose Yourself To Dance and featured Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers, Julian Casablancas, Paul Williams, Panda Bear and Todd Edwards.

To celebrate this milestone a special expanded edition will be released including 35 minutes of unreleased music (Demo and Studio Outtakes), with the double CD Digipak including a 20 page booklet.

DISC 1:
1. Give Life Back To Music
2. The Game Of Love
3. Giorgio By Moroder
4. Within
5. Instant Crush
6. Lose Yourself to Dance
7. Touch
8. Get Lucky
9. Beyond
10. Motherboard
11. Fragments Of Time
12. Doin’ It Right
13. Contact

Random Access Memories could well (still) be the biggest, boldest, and most infectious Daft Punk long player to date! Get Lucky dominated the summer of 2013, but the impressive array of great ideas, catchy hooks, deep grooves, and technical wizardry, overall make the whole album an endlessly revitalizing well that the listener can revisit time and time again.

In truth, the band have always worn their appreciation for disco on their sleeves, but this album’s affection for 1978 goes beyond homage. Giorgio Moroder provides a spoken-word vignette to the track bearing his name and Chic’s Nile Rodgers has a writing credit (and some funky guitar work) on the infectious Get Lucky, Lose Yourself To Dance, and Give Life Back To Music.

Other cameos include The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas on Instant Crush, Paul Williams on Touch, Todd Edwards on Fragments of Time, Animal Collective’s Panda Bear on Doing It Right, and, of course, Pharrell Williams leaves his mark over everything!

In short, Random Access Memories really fits the phrase they don’t make ’em like they used too and, in retrospect, it’s air of nostalgia and wistfulness feels a little more bittersweet considering Daft Punk’s breakup.

DISC 2:
1. Horizon Ouverture
2. Horizon (Japan CD)
3. GLBTM (Studio Outtakes)
4. Infinity Repeating (2013 Demo)
5. GL (Early Take)
6. Prime (2012 Unfinished)
7. LYTD (Vocoder Tests)
8. The Writing Of Fragments Of Time
9. Touch (2021 Epilogue)

The second CD, which contains 35 minutes of unreleased music re: demo and studio outtakes, features a fair bit of filler, sure, especially given some of it is early takes, unfinished thoughts and such, but stand out for me include the LYTD (Vocoder Tests) (with Pharrell Williams), the fluid GL (Early Take) (with voth Williams and Nile Rodgers) and even the Todd Edwards-hued The Writing of Fragments of Time.
