Title - Salish Rock
Artist - Desolation Sound

For those not in the know, Salish Rock is the debut album by Friday Harbor-based rock band Desolation Sound! Gathering songs from their previous independently-released EP’s together with 3 new tracks, the band have worked with producer Adam Kasper (plus some assistance from Jon Auer of The Posies) to craft a record that truly captures the atmosphere of the island they call home. Jon also played and sang on several of the tracks.

Says guitarist/vocalist Daniel Day, “Most of the songs were written on my acoustic guitar in my backyard overlooking Westcott Bay. There are songs about our love of friends, family, the place we live and even our love of record stores! As one of our songs says, it’s a new day, yesterday was long ago.”

Put plain and simple, Salish Rock is a collection of 11 wonderful power pop tunes that are sure to get your foot tapping and your mind racing!

1. Record Store
2. Deepest Garden
3. Yesterday Was Long Ago
4. Arms Around You
5. Evanesce
6. Salish Rock
7. Caution The Wind
8. Never Forget You
9. Beautiful Sun
10. The Artist
11. Can We Learn To Love Again?

This wondrously rock-tastic flashback to a time when music just felt so damn good, opens on the joyous ode to the good ol’ fashioned record stores of yesteryear, aptly-named Record Store, and backs that up with the U2-esque glisten of Deepest Garden, the mid-tempo, aching yearn balladry within Yesterday Was Long Ago, the enjoyable mid-’90s, indie pop bounce of Arms Around You, and then we get the shimmering guitar work found within the excellent Evanesce.

Along next is the melodic instrumental rock out of the titular Salish Rock and that is followed seamlessly by the drum-led Caution To The Wind, the low slung, dutifully harmonized Never Forget You, and the soaring guitar ballad Beautiful Sun, the album rounding out on the fervent, at first acoustic guitar led, and latterly gently rambunctious The Artist, coming to a close on the Church organ-hued, acoustic guitar-driven, electrically-charged culmination of Can We Learn To Love Again?

In support of their new album release, Desolation Sound has many shows lined up in the Pacific Northwest and Seattle area this summer, and are also busy recording their next album currently.

Personnel:
Daniel Day - rhythm guitar, lead vocals
Darvis Taylor - bass
Scott Sluis - drums
