Title - The Hive [EP]
Artist - Summerlyn Powers
An old soul with a southern belle heart, Summerlyn Powers is a genuine storyteller. Channeling the small town charm of her Alabama home into a uniquely southern sound, Powers combines her roots with the memorable traits held by many 1970’s singer/songwriters. Joni Mitchell, Carole King, James Taylor - these iconic artists inspire the sparkling fusion of her warm vocal tone, vividly detailed writing and “shred-level” guitar skills.
Starting her career at 11 years old with the state-wide hit “Alabama Kinda Girl” the accompanying music video features country legend Pam Tillis and boasts nearly 30k views on Youtube. Tillis has been a musical mentor to Powers, co-writing on others songs including her follow up single, “Rise & Shine”.
Powers also plays many Songwriting festivals nationally, including Hawaii, Durango, Mississippi, Mountain High, Frank Brown and Smoky Mountain. Currently pursuing a degree in Songwriting at Belmont University, she makes time to record and perform across the Southeast in promotion of her music.
Following the footsteps of the icons she is so inspired by, Summerlyn Powers is an artful songstress not easily forgotten and on October 6th, 2023, she welcomes listeners into her world once again with a brand new five-song EP, The Hive
“The heart behind this project is hospitality,” Summerlyn explains. “I want listeners to be able to see themselves and see their own stories in this record, and to feel known in that way.”
1. The Hive
2. Always On My Mind
3. Healing Like I Am
4. Nana & Papas House
5. Lets Roll
The EP opens on the spirited The Hive and then backs that up with the soulfully playful Always On My Mind, and then along comes the tender ballad Healing Like I Am (which was itself inspired by her first-ever breakup), the recording rounding out on the impassioned, heartfelt Nana & Papas House, closing on the gently rambunctious of Lets Roll.
“This record is accommodating for moments of peace and thoughtfulness,” Powers says, praising her band (guitarist Jackson Anderson, bassist Tom Davis, drummer Cole Pomeroy, and fiddler and pianist Cole Ritter) and producer, Reid Sorel, “but also, it opens up and just allows you to have a great time.”
