With over 20 million records sold, 1 billion streams and a procession of No. 1 hits, multi-Platinum band — comprising Gavin Rossdale (vocals, guitar), Chris Traynor (guitar), Corey Britz (bass) and Nik Hughes (drums) — stand tall as rock outliers whose imprint only widens as the years pass. Loaded provides an expansive view of the band’s incredible legacy with 21 tracks spanning nearly 30 years.

Loaded includes iconic hits from each of the band’s nine studio albums as well as “Mouth” (The Stingray Mix) from the 1997 remix album Deconstructed and a cover of the Beatles’ “Come Together” that saw a very limited release in 2012.

Asked why (on Q104.3’s Jim Kerr Rock & Roll Morning Show) that it took the band three decades to release such a compilation, Rossdale said: I always saw it as a swan song and a bit of a cop-out. Well, it’s not a cop-out because it’s not fair, because I myself, if I got someone’s greatest-hits album growing up, it was kind of convenient. I was, like, Oh, convenient record. It was super convenient. It’s like a snack of the band as opposed to any deep dives.

And I just was always obsessed with progress and the future and not leaning on the past and having an amazing catalog, but not leaning on it because then I sort of felt that you’d be trapped by it. And so I’ve always striven to write new music and not do that because I don’t wanna give the wrong message, and then now I’m doing it because, like everything, its time came.

CD 1:
The first set opens on the propulsive 90s nostalgia that crackles throughout the brilliant Everything Zen and the Nirvana-tinged Little Things, the still-rocking banger Comedown, the melancholic masterpiece Glycerine and the fervently timeless Machinehead.

Up next is the pop-grunge of Swallowed and the mysterious, gloomy, and dark, lyrically strewn brilliance that thread its way through the wholly underrated Greedy Fly and then we get the embodied Mouth (The Stingray Mix), the high speed, no forgiveness found sounds within The Chemicals Between Us, the first disc rounding out on the beautiful Letting The Cables Sleep and the veritable dissonance that resonates within The People That We Love.

CD 2:
The second disc opens on the beautiful Bush treasure gem Inflatable and the expressively melodic The Only Way Out and they are in turn backed by the absolute banger The Sound of Winter, the rhythmically strident This Is War, and then we get their track featured in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the compulsive 90s-imbibed Bullet Holes.

Along next is their best song from their 2020 album The Kingdom, Flowers On A Grave and then the refreshingly emotional title track itself The Kingdom, and they are followed by the powerhaus cut More Than Machines, the collection closing on the fantastic rock song Nowhere To Go But Everywhere and their grunge rock take on the Beatles’ Come Together.
