Title - Top Secret Lab
Artist - Rob Susman
Trombonist, composer, and arranger Rob Susman is a veteran of many NYC-based large ensembles, but his brand new album Top Secret Lab is his first effort as a leader since his eponymous album in 2002; giving him the opportunity to present his inventive writing and arranging, not to mention adventurous solos.
Furthermore, Susman wrote and arranged five of these seven compositions, all but “Erghen Diado” (Peter Liondev) and the mega hit from Percy Sledge, “When a Man Loves a Woman” (Lewis/Wright).
1. Tastes Like Chicken
2. Burrito Malo
3. This Time
4. Erghen Diado
5. East Side Infirmary
6. When a Man Loves a Woman
7. Out There
This delightful collection opens with the free flowing prog-jazz attitude of Tastes Like Chicken and the easy, breezy Burrito Malo, and then comes the coolness within This Time and then the rhythmically engaging Erghen Diadon.
Along next is the blues guitar rock heartbeat of East Side Infirmary and the aching balladry yearn found veined through East Side Infirmary, the recording rounding out on the impressive swagger within When a Man Loves a Woman, coming to a close on the impassioned Out There.
