Title - Gabriella
Artist - Miguel Espinoza Fusion

Miguel Espinoza is hailed as one of the best flamenco guitarists in the world. Described by Guitar Player Magazine as “mesmerizing”, Miguel is much more than a virtuoso technician.

Whether his lightening-fast fingers are skittering across the fretboard, fluttering over the sound hole like percussive hummingbird wings, or skillfully drawing achingly beautiful melodies out of the strings, Miguel’s award-winning compositions create an exotic, intoxicating musical elixir of flamenco fusion-one that is as sonically exciting as it is emotionally moving.

Miguel has performed both nationally and internationally at notable venues (Red Rocks and Macky Gardens, among others) and has shared the stage with artists such as Kitaro, Tuck and Patti, Rita Moreno and Ben Vareen.

He has also composed and recorded music for feature films and documentaries. In addition to performing, he offers private lessons, workshops and masterclasses.

Miguel Espinoza Fusion’s latest offering, Gabriella is a collection of original compositions and is a most wondrous fusion of flamenco, classical, Celtic, Afro-Cuban, and jazz, and releasing this September 22nd, 2023, ensures that anybody stuck in a search for new music to give as a gift need no longer feel so.

1. Gabriella (5:01)
2. Joy (9:36)
3. Howard’s Tune (4:14)
4. Rune (5:35)
5. Whistlin’ Down the Street (4:47)
6. Buleria Estila Antiqua (4:01)
7. Mermaid (8:40)
8. Hudson Avenue (10:32)
9. La Lluvia (6:17)
10. Barrio Latino (11:57)

With Espinoza’s Flamenco Fusion having only been formed in 2018, this invigorating new recording opens on the finger-snapping, shoe-shuffling delights of the titular Gabriella and the fluid guitar precision of the Esatern-flavored Joy, and then we get the Howard Levy harmonica-led Howard’s Tune, the flamenco-classical sensibilities of Rune and the sternly breezy Whistlin’ Down the Street.

Having been playing to sold out audiences in the Denver area ever since their incarnation, along next is the gently frenetic Buleria Estila Antiqua and then David Balakrishnan’s violin is brought to the fore on scintillating Mermaid, and they are themselves backed by more harmonica work on the free flowing Hudson Avenue, the album rounding out on the aching yearn found within La Lluvia, closing on the rrambunctious Barrio Latino.

“The inspiration for these songs comes from just living life,” noted Miguel, who composed all the songs for the album. “The good, the joyful, the sad, the tragic – we wanted to put all the human spectrum of emotions in this record.”

Gabriella was recorded in Pure DSD high-resolution audio at Octave Records’ state-of-the-art studio in Boulder, Colorado using microphones from Microtech Geffel, Neumann, Coles, AKG, Audix, and others, to best capture every detail and nuance of each instrument.

“The number one goal for all of us in this group is to have an emotional impact and to remind people of their humanity,” said Espinoza. “Any time we play, that’s how we feel as well.”

With Guest Artists: Grammy winners Howard Levy (harmonica) and David Balakrishnan (violin), and Grammy nominated David Hagedorn (vibraphone). Additional contributions by Priya Hariharan (carnatic violin and vocals), Victor Mestas Perez (piano), Nabin Shrestha (tabla) and Christian Teele (percussion).
