Title - Tango Suite Buenos Aires
Artist - Antonio Gavrila

Here on Tango Suite Buenos Aires (Zoho Music), the 27-year old Bucharest-based pianist-composer Antonio Gavrila joins an impressive roll call of renowned international artists who have paid tribute to the hugely influential Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla, including Gary Burton, Gidon Kremer, Richard Galliano, Al Di Meola, Yo-Yo Ma, the Kronos Quartet, Pablo Aslan, Bireli Lagrene & Gil Goldstein, Michel Camilo & Tomatito, and Sérgio & Odair Assad.

Each artist was greatly inspired by Piazzolla’s Nuevo Tango, none more engaging than Antonio’s. The centerpiece of the album is Gavrila’s Suite Buenos Aires, inspired by Piazzolla’s Angel Suite. As he explains, “Each piece represents a picture of everything I saw and experienced in Buenos Aires while recording the album there.”

1. Michalengelo 70
2. Introduccion al Angel
3. Prelude en la Noche
4. Amor Sin Palabras
5. Tango Suite Buenos Aires, Pt. I Tristeza
6. Tango Suite Buenos Aires, Pt. II Nuevos Tiempos
7. Tango Suite Buenos Aires, Pt. III Nostalgico
8. Tango Suite Buenos Aires, Pt. IV Todo Piazzolla

It opens with the strident Michalengelo 70 and the melancholy Introduccion al Angel and then brings us the flourishing Prelude en la Noche and then we get the most beautifully sculpted Amor Sin Palabras.

Along next is the Tango Suite Buenos Aires quartet, which begins with Pt. 1 Tristeza, a resonating, hauntingly stoic work, whereas Pt. II Nuevos Tiempos unleashes the accordion-driven Tango in full swing, Pt. III Nostalgico is a more dulcet affair, the recording coming to a close on the more grandiose Pt. IV Todo Piazzolla.

: Antonio Gavrila - piano; Walther Castro - bandoneon; Quique Sinesi - guitar; and Horacio “Mono” Hurtado - bass.
