Title - Reveal
Artist - Micah Thomas

The young pianist Micah Thomas was revealed to an international audience at the turn of the 2000s, after the release of his first disc as a leader (a trio recording entitled ‘Tide’), and then his almost instant entrance into the stimulating quartet led by saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins. It seemed that Micah had no time to lose.

Today, his release of his new opus under the title Reveal confirms not only his exceptional instrumental talents but, in drawing on the history of modern jazz to nourish his innovative and powerfully organic conceptions of the age-old ‘piano-bass-drums’ formula, Micah is already standing out as the fer-de-lance of a new generation of American jazz musicians determined to conjugate the tradition in a subjective present.

1. Little Doctor (Take 2)
2. Look at the Birds
3. Lightning
4. Eros
5. Sacred Memory
6. Little Doctor (Take 1)
7. Stars
8. Troubled Mind
9. Denardirn

This masterful recording opens on the smooth hipsway of Little Doctor (Take 2) and the delightfully sumptuous Look at the Birds and they are followed by the sterner, cultured affair Lightning and the gentle dance floor swirl within Eros.

Along next is the quieter fare of Sacred Memory and the low slung finger-snapper Little Doctor (Take 1) and they are in turn backed by the ornate Stars, rounding out on the all-embracing Troubled Mind, coming to a close on the warmly impassioned Denardirn.

Musicians:
Micah Thomas (piano)
Dean Torrey (bass)
Kayvon Gordon (drums)
