Title - Texas Scratch
Artist - Texas Scratch

For those unaware, Texas Scratch is a band consisting of three hot Texas guitar players and their friends who play foot tapping blues with a hint of southern rock thrown in the mix.

Their new self-titled album (out now via Quarto Valley Records) showcases the guitars of Jim Suhler (George Thorogood and the Destroyers), the guitars of Buddy Whittington (John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers), the guitars of Vince Converse (Sunset Heights) and the chest pounding drum beat of Jeff Simon (George Thorogood and the Destroyers).

This isn’t just an old fashioned six string shootout or fret shredding contest; these boys have written concise songs with clever lyrics and killer arrangements. There is a mutual respect and sense of joy in their playing and singing and in this fine collection of tracks, it surely shows.

1. Texas Trio
2. I’d Rather Be Lucky Than Good
3. What The Devil Loves
4. Trip Hammer
5. Purple Mountain Flask
6. Louisiana Cock Fight
7. Evil (Do Right For You)
8. Ain’t Got The Scratch
9. Showdown

This vibrantly pulsating new recording opens on the good old, low slung blues rock of Texas Trio and the mid-tempo foot-tapper I’d Rather Be Lucky Than Good and they are followed by the smoothness found within What The Devil Loves and the rhythmic, ZZ Top-esque Trip Hammer.

Along next is the drum-led, guitar-fed, down and dirty ambiance of Purple Mountain Flask and the searing guitar work that drives Louisiana Cock Fight and they are in turn backed by the ZZ Top-hued, pop-rock-blues cut Evil (Do Right For You), rounding out on the melodic blues flow of Ain’t Got The Scratch, coming to a close on the bluesy hipsway of Showdown.

So kick back, turn it up a notch and enjoy what these boys have brought to the table. We hope you’ll agree, this is Texas Scratch at their finest!
