Title - No More Excuses
Artist - Danette McMahon

Standing behind a microphone at the age of seven, Danette McMahon first shared her love for singing, appearing onstage in Cleveland, Texas, where she grew up. In junior high school, she became devoted to the clarinet, adding this to her passion for music.

The clarinet won her a position into The University of Texas marching band and her voice garnered her the invitation to sing with the Jazz Band, second semester. Instead, she made a decision to accept a scholarship from Houston Baptist University, majoring in music and drama.

Over the years, Danette has shared the stage with numerous, well respected professionals, such as Oscar winner Rita Moreno, and has alternated sets with Little Anthony & The Imperials and jazz/blues legend, Joe Williams, at the Tropicana & Sahara in Las Vegas.

She opened for Freddie Hubbard, Pacquito de Rivera, Hiroshima, and Spyro Gyra at the “Jazz on the Grazz” Festival in Fort Lauderdale. In Houston, Danette was the featured vocalist with The Bob Henschen Band, opening for Marvin Hamlisch, Dionne Warwick, and The SmothersBrothers.

Danette McMahon has just released her brand new debut album, the vibrantly effective No More Excuses.

I didn’t realize how badly I wanted to get my music out into the world until an old friend of mine miraculously reentered my life, Danette explains. Duke Davis and I had a great time working together, back in the mid 70’s, and then we lost touch. I discovered he had been very busy, recording his own albums as well as producing many other artists, throughout the years.

He was excited to hear I started writing music in 2002, but shocked that I had never recorded an album. He was determined to help me change that!

I truly believe in God’s timing. I waited all these years for the perfect producer, great engineers and a stellar ensemble of musicians. The incredible energy in the studio was poured into my long overdue project! I’m hoping my first album will be one to remember!

Along next is her remarkable rendition of Oasis’ masterful Wonderwall and the low key blues-hued My Pity Party and they are in turn backed seamlessly by the aching yearn of Don’t Pretend, the veritably twinkling You And Me, the quietly frenetic Good Ol’ Days, the recording coming to a close on the sumptuous Bluebird and the enraptured Lady I Never Knew.
