Title - Blink of an Eye [CD Single]
Artist - Michael Paulo

One of the most versatile and cosmopolitan saxophonists in pop, soul and contemporary jazz for nearly 35 years, Michael Paulo has added his distinct saxpertise to a virtual who’s who of artists, including Al Jarreau (Paulo’s longest term touring association), James Ingram, No. 1 Smooth Jazz Trumpeter and guitarist Rick Braun and Peter White, Oleta Adams, Kenny Loggins, Patti Austin, Jeffrey Osborne, Jeff Lorber, David Benoit, Carl Anderson, Bobby Caldwell, Johnny Mathis and more.

Another Milestone in Michael’s Career is his recent appearance on a previously unreleased Miles Davis record that was recorded in 1986. The unheard tracks were recorded prior to his release TUTU. The record was released Sept 6th 2020 and reached the number 1 status on the billboard jazz charts in its first week.

In early 2023, longtime fans who had been waiting a decade for some fresh music from Michael were delighted when he decided to have some Hang Time with them via his Woodward Avenue debut single.

With significant airplay on Sirius XM’s Watercolors, the saxophonist was excited to be relevant again at radio and keep the momentum of his renaissance going.

Rather than follow up with a typical funky, in the pocket, urban flavored single, he shared Here is Happiness, a nostalgic piece inspired by his father, legendary Hawaiian musician Rene Paulo, who had recently passed away.

Paulo created a unique, contemporary jazz re-imagining of his dad’s 1962 song, the new take reflecting Paulo’s admiration and love for his dad, whose influence and encouragement made his life in music possible.

Written by Paulo and Jeffrey Smith and produced and mixed by Brown (who helmed Hang Time and co-produced Here is Happiness), his latest single Blink of an Eye is a classic, infectious, in the pocket, easy funk, urban smooth jazz vibe all the way.

Yet his longtime fans - who may also remember his extended stints with Peter White, Rick Braun and late greats Al Jarreau, James Ingram and Bobby Caldwell - may notice a slightly different, emotionally elevated horn vibe.

Paulo, generally known as the alto saxman, leads here with the simmering sound of the more robust, deeper toned tenor and it pays off as the single is pure elegance, sumptuously wrapped up in a smooth R&B jazz flashback groove that sends us back to a time when everything seemed to make sense.
