'Double Dragon: Special Collector's Edition'
(Scott Wolf, Alyssa Milano, Robert Patrick, Mark Dacascos, Julia Nickson, et al / Blu-ray+DVD / PG-13 / (1994) 2019 / MVD Rewind Collection)

Overview: From producers Don Murphy (Transformers franchise), Jane Hamsher (Natural Born Killers), Alan Schechter (Showdown), writers Michael Davis (Shoot 'Em Up) and Emmy® Award Winner* Peter Gould (Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad) comes the cult classic movie based on the video game smash!

Blu-ray Verdict: Following the "success" of the film 'Super Mario Brothers,' someone decided it would be a good idea to make a computer version of fighting games.

There was Van Damme's awful and woeful attempt at making a Streetfighter film and then there was this pile of rubbish!

Most of you older readers will remember an old arcade game called Double Dragon and although it was not the first scroll-along and beat-em-up game, it did start a trend in the arcades and on consoles for beat-em-ups; such as Dragon Ninja, Final Fight, and so on.

Anyway, and back to this film, this cinematic version is nothing compared to the game, trust me! It has virtually no martial arts (it's all comic book stuff watered down to please the kids), and all the CGI-enhanced elements make it pretty tacky to watch too.

That said, if you sit back, relax, and turn your brains off you WILL enjoy it, you have my word on that! Do not think, as these two brothers battle their way through the remains of Los Angeles to save the world from the Evil Whatsisface (his name escapes me now, sorry), that none of it seems based in reality - because it's not!

Oh, yes, Kogo Shuko aka Guisman! Interesting that he has a seemingly Asian name, while his appearance is entirely Caucasian. Come to think of it, those two boys don't look like brothers either!

Heck, they don't even look like they're of the same race. Must be half-brothers or something. Pardon my rambling. Let's continue, shall we.

The film's plot is the two brothers fighting through a bunch of gang members to rescue the girlfriend of one of them who has a connection to some strange mystic medallion.

Sure, that's where things become needlessly and overly complicated, which sends the script down the pan for a while, but the occasional chuckle does still give it life.

The trick to understanding the plot is simple. If you look for a plot you won't find one. If you expect NO plot it will reveal itself. Worse yet, if you truly don't expect it to make a lick of sense it kind of will; especially if you're willing to take plot holes big enough to swim in in stride!

One thing is for certain though if you go in expecting a great movie with wondrous special effects you'll quickly wonder why you ever purchased this brilliant new Blu-ray+DVD Special Collector's Edition set.

But, if you, like aforementioned, sit back with a beer and some popcorn on a nothing-better-to-do Sunday afternoon, you will love it for all its worth. Again, you have my word on that. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
