Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen P1
(Natalie Alyn Lind, Chandler Riggs, Nat Wolff, Ozioma Akagha, Jen Brown, et al / 4K UHD+Blu-ray+Digital / PG / 2023 / Studio Distribution Services)

Overview: The Justice League faces off against a new horror -- adolescence! Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg, Green Lantern, and Vixen are surprised to find that not only have they materialized on a strange world called Remnant, but they’ve also been transformed into teenagers!

Meanwhile, the heroes of Remnant, Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang, find their world has been mysteriously altered. Can the combined forces of the Justice League and Team RWBY return Remnant, and the Earth’s Super Heroes, to normal before a superpowered Grimm destroys everything they know?

4K UHD Blu-ray Verdict: Warner Bros. Entertainment is expanding their 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray catalog offerings this month with the release of the highly-anticipated Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen Part One in the expansive 4K Ultra HD video format this April 25th, 2023.

For my money, this Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen Part One [4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital] combo pack sharpness takes a fairly large step forward from others in their 4K Ultra HD catalog and even comes with HDR (High Dynamic Range) for the complete 4K Ultra HD experience, of course.

So, what we have is Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen Part One presented to us as a two-disc combo pack with a sheet for a Digital HD Copy. Other stand out points you should know are: Codec: HEVC / H.265 Resolution: Upscaled 4K (2160p), HDR: HDR10, Aspect ratio: 1.78:1 and Original aspect ratio: 1.78:1.

Featuring Dolby Vision and HDR10 for brighter, deeper, and way more lifelike colors, as with most all 4K UHDs, everything that we watch features these qualities - but somehow, this film gloriously shines within them all.

Noticeably crisp with the overall clarity receiving an obvious boost here on this release, what is more is that it is enjoyably noticeable. For as well as some new nuances to the somewhat drab palette courtesy of Dolby Vision, we also get to witness sudden bright pops of color, which makes the eyes draw in, for sure.

One of those moments being when a young Batman (voiced by Nat Wolff) attempts to master the newfound powers that have transformed him into a literal bat-man. Opening his wings, jumping high, revolving, flying, wall walking, he is amazed at what he has become; and the little electrical charges that flash whenever he lands across the walls pop and glow just perfectly.

As for the audio, well we get the choice of: English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, French: Dolby Digital 5.1 and Spanish: Dolby Digital 2.0.

Overall, this is a very strong 4K HDR Blu-ray presentation, and, for the most part, the audio track remains fairly similar to its DTS-HD counterpart; with much of the action occupying the surrounds with outstanding directionality and placement where effects flawlessly pan between the sides and rears.

As for the story to hand, and as much as I won’t try and give too much away for those unknowing, this is RWBY’s first animated film being produced by the same team behind the series and the plot is partially inspired by the Justice League Unlimited episode Kid Stuff. However, instead of the heroes transforming into children, they turn into adolescent teenagers, of course.

Uniting for the very first time in Remnant, the Justice League, a very relieved Vixen, makes it known that to both Wonder Woman and Superman that she was never a big fan of being a teenager the first time, and sure isn’t again now!

But, as the Justice League and RWBY are all united for the very first time, they must obviously try and get past their differences, because discovering what happened to bring the newcomers to this world is of the upmost priority.

But of course, and as one would fully expect, nothing comes easy to these characters, whether they be adults or teenagers, because they have their work cut out for them, for it is more than clear that the Justice League have little memory of what was happening before they suddenly appeared in Remnant.

Thus, with both sets of Super Heroes and Huntsmen not only seeing the heroes transformed into teenagers, but with the transformation now having also caused some alteration within the riff of the Remnant world, it is now the world’s very own heroes RWBY who must seek out how to reverse it, and fix it forever.

And so, as you have now gathered, the Justice League and RWBY must join forces to return the world to normal before a super-powered Grimm (an soulless creature now running amok in Remnant) can destroy everything they know!

Special Features:
NEW! Justice Comes to Remnant – When the Justice League find themselves on Remnant, they’ll have to deal with more than just their powers being altered. In this featurette, the filmmakers behind the film explore the world of Remnant, the Huntsmen that fight for it and how Earth’s mightiest heroes are forced to adapt.

NEW! You Look … Different – Remnant, the world of RWBY, isn’t like Earth. The people are different. The powers are different. And the Justice League? Their entire appearance is different too. In this featurette, the creators of the film reveal the story behind the new look they’ve given to some old friends.
