And with enough gorgeous cinematography from Academy Award® nominee* Bill Butler (Jaws, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest), whose camera’s intimacy with vehicles at rocket velocity is striking (The New York Times) and breathless editing (The New York Times) to keep you on the edge of your seat from the start to the finish line, Reline is out May 30th, 2023 via MVD Marquee Collection.

Blu-ray Verdict: The story’s pretty straight forward. The idle rich need something unconventional to spend their hard-earned money on. So, they bet on and/or sponsor illegal car races. Unfortunately, Jason (one of the drivers) gets killed trying to impress his Uncle Michael. The latter is a Robert Pastorelli look-alike whose New Age philosophies do little to camouflage the fact that he’s a psychopathic Mafia don.

So, Carlo - Jason’s older brother and a returning Iraqi War hero - goes to an old gun-running buddy and stocks up on the stuff every good one-man army needs. Along the way, he rescues Natasha, a would-be pop diva whom Michael is convinced is his cosmically-ordained soul mate. Not to mention, the daughter of a race car champ who suffered a tragic fate a la Dale Ernhart, Sr. Giving her a phobia against racing professionally.

Tim Matheson and Eddie Harris, as two of the fellow gamblers, are the biggest names in the cast. But, even they get upstaged by the gorgeous ladies and the break-neck racing scenes. Not that I minded, though. In fact, there is one scene I found particularly refreshing, where some small-time street racers were actually ARRESTED by the cops!

OK, sure, Redline is clearly intended as a fun ride focusing on expensive cars and women, with blue eyed Natasha (Nadia Bjorlin) as the eye catcher who is truly stealing the show and race., so if you like to see real fast cars in what looks to be genuinely real action, Redline is the one to watch.

And so, in conclusion, nice it is lovely see a chase film where even the Good Guys cannot escape all the negative consequences of lead-footing where they’re not supposed to. For that alone, I give this high-octane piece of escapism a perfect ten.
