Night Of The Killer Bears
(Sananthachat Thanapatpisal, Patchata Jan-Ngern, Khemanit Jamikorn, Chanagun Apornsutinan, et al / DVD / R / 2024 / 4Digital Media)

Overview: After not seeing each other for a long time, 5 teenage friends living in the city of Bangkok go on a vacation together, staying at a quiet resort isolated from the city. Things take a dark turn, when it’s revealed each of them have hidden secrets and unbeknownst to the group, there is someone observing them.

When one of them ends up brutally murdered, paranoia and distrust surrounds the group, motivating each remaining member to accuse each other of being the murderer or considering the possibility that the real murderer is the unseen presence observing them, and that they all are in danger.

DVD Verdict: With tags lines such as Who wants a killer cuddle and having already been labelled a Blood-splattered gorefest, sometimes such statements are transparently false, created solely for marketing a movie that ends up either not being as comedically-horrorful as the tag, or worse yet, as blood-n-gutsy as the label, but here within the confines of Night Of The Killer Bears, both those worlds come lovingly together, trust me!

Thus, I am very pleased to say that Night Of The Killer Bears is a slasher-kill fun-fest of the highest order and sure, there are moments when you cannot believe how stupid some people are being (especially when it is obviously easier to run for the hills), but that all plays into the overall gory storytelling and, of course, on screen bloody craziness galore!

Written and directed by Kanphong Banjongphinij and co-written by Lee Thongkham, this sub-titled horror features human killers that all wear over-sized, mascot-style teddy bear heads (all be they well created to look just a wee bit off), and so no actual bears of any kind were harmed during the making of this what-turns-out-to-also-be teddy bear slaughter fest!

What I myself liked about the movie is that it never takes itself too seriously at any point, and yes, it feeds off every known slasher-made film along the way, but the fact they keep the true villain a secret until a late-in-the-day reveal, complete with compulsory revenge speech, made it a rather dynamic version of those other lamer renditions.

Oooh, having read all this now, I bet you can bearly wait to run out and purchase it and watch it with your friends tonight!
