Ghost Canyon

Strays (Unleashed Edition)
(Will Ferrell, Jamie Foxx, Will Forte, Dennis Quaid, et al / Blu-ray + DVD + Digital / R / 2023 / Studio Distribution Services)

Overview: Plucky pup Reggie (Ferrell) thought he and his owner Doug (Forte) were playing an innocent game of fetch. It isn’t until he meets Bug (Foxx), a streetwise stray who says only suckers have owners, that Reggie realizes his miserable master intentionally abandoned him in the big city.

With two more pooches (Fisher & Park) adding fuel to his furry fire, Reggie goes from cute to cunning as he and Bug concoct a crazy scheme to get back to Doug and give him a big bite between his legs!

Blu-ray Verdict: Have you ever watched Family Guy and wished someone compiled all the skits where the writers suddenly remembered that Brian is a dog? You know, like the time when he suddenly reacts to the word snack or when he hears other dogs barking at night and this time it’s just a dog-to-human translation Hey are you a dog? I’m a dog! This movie is that, but without Peter, Meg and Stewie!

Dogs are dumber than people, I mean, in most cases, so to make a full featured film depicting dogs adventures (without any filters) and keep viewers entertained all throughout the film is certainly a feat. The narrating dog bit had me in pieces! I can totally see Brian in this movie as well. Come on, let’s redo the script and animate him in, just a voice of occasional wisdom from a dog attracted to human women. Oh, this is not a Fox network movie, oh well.

Moving on and if you came here for dogs talking about sex from a dog’s perspective, dogs making more poop jokes than Triumph the Insult Comic Dog could ever dream of, a pack of dogs making a cross country road trip on foot, then you came to the right place! If you came here for something like Citizen Kane or 2001: A Space Odyssey, well, those are motion pictures ... and, well, so is this! In that all these movies have at least a few similarities.

This is an extremely raunchy, hilarious comedy, where it doesn’t hold back and follows through on everything. There are no loose ends, no questions unanswered, and a completely satisfactory ending for, well, almost everyone. Will Ferrell and Jamie Foxx are perfectly cast as the voices of the two lead dogs, and the rest of the cast are also in fine form. Note, Triumph is not actually in this movie. Just in case, you know, some people didn’t realize that. Oh, and in case this fact had not been made clear, this movie has real dogs, not puppets!

The hilariously entertaining and full of heart STRAYS features an a-list lineup of comedic talent in-front of and behind the camera with director Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) and stars Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers, Confessions of a Shopaholic), Randall Park (Marvel’s WandaVision, Fresh Off the Boat) and Brett Gelman (Stranger Things) alongside Will Ferrell, Jamie Foxx and Will Forte.
