The Expendables 1-4 [4K UHD Steelbook - Walmart]
(Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Andy Garcia, et al / SteelBook 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray / R / 2023 / LGF)

Overview: The mercenaries return looking better than ever in a Walmart exclusive SteelBook® collection in 4K Ultra HD™ (+ Blu-ray™ + Digital) when The Expendables, The Expendables 2, The Expendables 3 and Expend4ables arrive November 21 from Lionsgate. The Expendables films star Sylvester Stallone (who also directed the first entry in the series) along with the greatest action heroes of all time, contained within one franchise. The Expendables series follows a group of combat vets turned mercenaries delivering justice the only way they know how.

4K Blu-ray Verdict: Lionsgate Entertainment is expanding their 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray catalog offerings this month with the release of the highly-anticipated The Expendables 1-4 [4K UHD Steelbook - Walmart] in the expansive 4K Ultra HD video format this Holiday season.

For my money, this The Expendables 1-4 [4K UHD Steelbook - Walmart] pack sharpness takes a fairly large step forward from others in their 4K Ultra HD catalog and even comes with HDR (High Dynamic Range) for the complete 4K Ultra HD experience, of course.

So, what we have is The Expendables 1-4 [4K UHD Steelbook - Walmart] presented to us as a combo pack with a sheet for a Digital HD Copy. Other stand out points you should know are: Codec: HEVC / H.265, Resolution: 4K (2160p), HDR: Dolby Vision, HDR10, Aspect ratio: 2.40:1, 2.39:1 and Original aspect ratio: 2.39:1.

THE EXPENDABLES (2012): Sylvester Stallone stars as Barney Ross, leader of The Expendables, a tight-knit team of skilled combat vets turned mercenaries. Hired by a powerful covert operator, the team jets off to a small South American country to overthrow a ruthless dictator. Once there, they find themselves caught in a deadly web of deceit and betrayal. Using every weapon at their disposal, they set out to save the innocent and punish the guilty in this blistering action-packed thriller.

To put it bluntly, this is greatest action movie in ages. Sly has crafted a movie that is a perfect blend of story, comedy, and action that work together to keep the viewers locked in for the ride. It’s a kind of action movie that has not been seen in decades, in that it’s not about cramming explosions into a 90 minute block, rather telling an exciting story that involves characters you care about. The story is gripping and moving, the comedy is spot-on and releases tension, and the action, well, it rocks!

Stallone is a living legend and seeing him in an 80’s style action flick is is a real treat. Dolph Lundgren is absolutely fantastic and this movie proves he should bring his straight-to-video action releases to the big screen. Jet Li’s swift kicks and beautiful fighting techniques are stunning and Jason Statham shows that he truly is among the last remaining classic-style action stars. Steve Austin, Randy Couture, Terry Crews all turn in great performances as well.

THE EXPENDABLES 2 (2012): The Expendables are back in a sequel that J. Rentilly of Menshealth.com called “a high-octane adventure with non-stop action!” The team signs on a mission that looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But things quickly go wrong, and one of their own is killed by a psychotic terrorist-for-hire. Hell-bent on payback, they cut a swath of destruction through enemy territory and wreak havoc upon their opponents. In the midst of the mayhem, they must also shut down an unexpected threat in the nick of time – preventing five tons of weapons-grade plutonium from falling into the wrong hands.

Simon West’s film has the return of Barney Ross and his gun-toting team as Church sends them on a mission to the Soviet Union that should be a piece of cake. But when something goes wrong and one of their comrades has fallen, they look for revenge and we know things are going to go down.

This film boasts an star-studded cast with some big action names. Stallone returns, of course, but so does Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, and Dolph Lundgren. It was also good to see that both Willis and Schwarzenegger have bigger roles this time around. Jean Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris make very good additions to the cast. They all may be old, but they are still good enough to pile on a pretty hefty body count.

Overall, this is one action-packed sequel and it effectively pays homage to the old-school action films of the 80’s and 90’s.

THE EXPENDABLES 3 (2014): Barney (Stallone) faces off with an old enemy and must fight old blood with new blood, bringing in a new era of Expendables who are younger and faster. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in The Expendables’ most personal battle yet.

The team comes to loggerheads with Conrad Stonebanks, who co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill ... or so he thought. Stonebanks, who cheated death once before, now is making it his mission to destroy The Expendables, but Barney has other plans.

Barney brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of old-school versus high-tech expertise and it is third time lucky for Stallone’s massive nostalgia project, in my humble opinion. And adding in Jean Claude van Damme makes this the BEST cast ensemble piece yet.

Oh, and kudos to Willis for being so monetarily greedy, as we are treated to Ford in his best supporting role in years, and one where he even channels Solo in the films action packed finale!

Other great additions are Wesley Snipes, who really plays it down as the newly rescued from prison (tax evasion perhaps?) member, Banderas, who does overdo it a little as the comic relief, but is so full of energy, and Gibson, who hasn’t been this brilliant since Payback!

EXPEND4BLES (2023): A new generation of stars is added to the adrenaline-fueled adventure of The Expendables as action legends Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture are joined for the first time by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, and Andy Garcia.

As the highly skilled mercenaries take on an arms dealer and his private army with every weapon they can get their hands on, the new recruits bring daring styles and tactics that give “new blood” a whole new meaning.

We find everything that makes the charm of The Expendables in their fourth mission, which gets back to the basics. From aging and touching veterans to rookies who bring new blood. In every sense of the word, when our favorite last line of defense settles scores with arms dealers and terrorists who threaten to start a world war.

Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, 50 Cent, Megan Fox, Dolph Lundgren, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Randy Couture, Andy Garcia and Levy Tran all portray their respective character with passion.

Unfortunately, Sly has already confirmed that this is Barney Ross’ last mission. After seeing this fourth part, we can hope that he will reconsider his decision, even if it means playing a less active role. Because he is the creator, the leader, the heart and the soul of these Expendables.

There is new blood pumped into the Sylvester, Jason, Dolph and Randy team with Megan taking charge of the team and Curtis is a new recruit. Andy is their new C. I. A. Liaison giving the Expendables their orders. Iko plays the bad guy that steals uranium for a bomb to be used by terrorists and Tony plays an old friend of Sylvester’s that joins the team later in the game.

Of course, there are the usual problems of getting to know and trust the new members of the team-and it’s not easy after the discovery of a possible mole in the organization-but it does contain plenty of action, as to be expected in an Expendables movie.
