Foghat - Slow Ride: Live In Concert [Blu-ray]
(Foghat / Blu-ray / NR / 2024 / Cleopatra Entertainment)

Overview: Slow Ride: Live in Concert gives us undistilled Foghat, recorded and filmed live over two months in Texas in 1999, shortly before frontman Dave Peverett’s premature death at the age of 56.

The power and drive of these classic songs come ringing through and are a celebration of Foghat’s vision and talent, many years since the band exploded onto the world in 1970.

Blu-ray Verdict: Running at 78 minutes, this incredible new Blu-Ray release includes the entire concert uprezzed to HD quality for the first time and also adds a bonus interview with the Band!

Personally, I’ve always thought that Foghat were cut to the bone with tasty rock, blues, and boogie. They took out all the artificial ingredients and gave us a great gift with each musical gem they brought forth.

And this wonderful concert proves that on all levels and kicks things off with the forceful Drivin’ Wheel, which instantly showcases Lonesome Dave up there smiling and working the crowd like a man with 1000 more years of life ahead of him, and then brings us the rhythmic rocker Somebody’s Been Sleepin’ In My Bed, the melodic Stone Blue, the low slung blues grinder It Hurts Me Too, and this truly legendary performance continues onward with the slide guitar-led Rock Your House.

With mo masking track, no auto tune, no computer generated noise, just well practiced musicians on stage with their instruments, the show continues onward with the dutifully crafted blues rocker Sweet Home Chicago and the blues balladry of Angel Of Mercy (which still gets me today that Lonesome Dave wrote this song when he was already incurable ill), and then rounding the live event off is a guitar-fueled Fool For The City, where everything they were known for came together to bring us a devilishly great rocking blues cut, then we get a blistering I Just Want To Make Love To You, the set closing on their infamous Slowride.
