Marion Raven Marion Raven

'The Call of The Raven is Upon Us!'

“There’s a taste in my mouth that I never had before/ To be a cheater, defeater, are things I won’t ignore” – 'Heads Will Roll.'

Like the pitch-black bird with which she shares a name, a nod to her Viking past, the songs on 22-year old Norwegian-born singer/songwriter Marion Raven 'Heads Will Roll' EP are dark, vengeful, mysterious, dangerous, but ultimately uplifting and cathartic.

Many of the songs, all of them written by Raven who plays both electric and acoustic guitar as well as piano, some in collaboration with others, are about heartbreak and disappointment, the result of a real-life relationship gone bad. For example, “13 Days,” which she composed with Canadian singer/songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk and Our Lady Peace’s Raine Maida, is about a fling she had lasting just that long.

'Heads Will Roll,' features Marion playing atop a pile of 10 naked women. What the video lacks in clothes, it makes up in rock. Co-written with Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe, the video features Xavier Muriel from Buckcherry on drums and the talents The Exies (Scott Stevens backing vocals and guitar and Freddy Herrera on bass).

Already a huge success in Japan where her album, Here I Am, debuted at #6 on the charts and her single hit #1. US audiences can soon get a taste of Marion later this year when her EP is released on the internet. Her full length will be released in the US first quarter 2007.

Being that your new EP had some writing aid from the great Nikki Sixx, I'm wondering how you got involved with him in the first place? "I actually met him in Oslo, Norway. My sister is a big Alice Cooper fan and Nikki was opening upfor him with his band "Brides of Destruction". We got a hold of some backstage tickets and I told Nikki about my record. He invited me to come to L.A and write some songs. So I did."

And with other songs involving (and including) Keith Nelson(Buckcherry) and Scott Stevens (The Exies) and the like, it seems like you're the new flavor of the recording month. That being the case, what flavor would that be if I were to stop an ice cream truck and ask for it?! "Chocolate, for sure!"

Having just contributed vocals to Meat Loaf's 'It's All Coming Back To Me Now' (for his 'Bat Out Of Hell 3' CD), what was that experience like? "The experience was amazing. When I heard the song I wanted to do it so badly. I was trilled when I got the gig. I actually used to love the song as a child. I would walk around my neighborhood, knock on doors and ask if I could sing for them. And that would be the song I would sing. So when I went into the studio I knew the song my heart."

You've been set up in the press as the new Joan Jett of Rock 'n Roll, but are you yourself comfortable with such a title? "There are so many girls out there right now who pretend to be rock. but they don´t write their own songs, they don´t play instruments and some don´t even sing. So I think you would have to go all the way back to Joan Jett to find someone to compare me with."

Taking a look at your CD artwork for the 'Heads Will Roll' EP and I can't help but think - after countless looks! - that even though you are surrounded by 'naked' girls that you yourself are wearing a flesh-colored top! Is that true and if so were you told to or did you choose to based on your shy modesty? "You will never know if I am or not!"

Why name this wonderful EP 'Heads Will Roll' anyway? Does it have a more personal message behind it for you, perhaps? "I named the EP 'Heads Will Roll' because that´s the song people know and I wanted it to be the title track."

For those out there that wish to buy your new EP and forthcoming CD, but have not heard of your work before, how would you yourself describe the euphoric musical state that they are to prepare for? "The EP has 6 great rock tracks that are fun and meant to jump around to. You should get it and play it at a party or when you are getting ready to go out on the town. My album coming out goes a little deeper than that with everything from rock tracks, piano rockers and ballads. The lyrics are very personal to me and I believe people can relate to them and get a personal connection with the music."

Anyway, back to the CD artwork and what was the actual meaning behind the 'naked' people imagery all lying flat/sprawled on the floor? I mean surely you can at least tell me that?! "You should check out the video on www.myspace.com/marionraven and add me as a friend. You will get why!"

OK, I guess not! SO, please tell me about your craziest touring experience to date thus far! "My craziest touring experience must be when my band and I was celebrating our last show in Tokyo and we got kicked out of our own hotel!"

For fun, if you were asked to cover, in your own style, any(cheesy) '80s pop song which would it be?! "Pat Benatar's 'Hit Me With Your Best Shot'."

Exclusive Magazine like Penguins, do you?! "Actually, one of my best friends, Franziska has a big thing for Penguins and I bought her a stuffed one for Christmas. I think she has like 20 of them now!"
