'DysFunKtional Family'
(Eddie Griffin / R / 82 mins / Circle Films)
Overview: This is a concert film of Eddie Griffin's stand-up material, intercut with clips of his odd family, including former pimp Uncle Buckey and porn aficionado Uncle Curtis.
Verdict: To be frank, there's a big difference between "racy" and "racist," and comedian Eddie Griffin can't seem to tell the difference! For the most part, Griffin's occasional comedic sparks are eclipsed by jokes that fizzle, but the concert film's ultimate failure, though, is that it's been edited with attention deficit!! If its star were more consistently funny, it might have worked, but too often Griffin just runs through familiar Chitlin Circuit performance tropes, adding nary a hint of originality. I mean, after Gallo's umpteenth cut to the crowd, the routine wears thin, just like Griffin's!!!
