'Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat'
(Mike Myers, Spencer Breslin, Dakota Fanning / PG / 91 mins / Universal)

Overview: Based on Dr. Seuss' children's classic, the story features a little boy (Spencer Breslin) and girl (Dakota Fanning) who have to sit around bored on a rainy day while their mother (Kelly Preston) is out. The arrival of the Cat in a Hat (Mike Myers) and Thing One and Thing Two livens things up, until they proceed to trash the house. But just in the nick of time, the Cat cleans up his fun and tips his hat and runs. Will the kids confess about the Cat in the Hat who made a mess?

Verdict: Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! 'Dr. Seuss' Cat In The Hat' is another overwrought clunker like 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' ... all effects and stunts and CGI and prosthetics, with no room for lightness and joy. In fact, there's little rhyme and no reason in this atrocious hairball of a film which seems continually stuck in candy-colored synthetic overdrive! Disastrously misconceived, 'Dr. Seuess' Cat In The Hat' comes scarily close to being the most unendurable Hollywood creation of the last dozen years! Avoid this flick at all costs!
