Title - 'Teddy: Expanded Edition'
Artist - Teddy Pendergrass

Theodore DeReese Pendergrass, better known as simply Teddy Pendergrass was an American singer–songwriter and composer who sadly passed away in January 2010. He first rose to fame as lead singer of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes in the 1970s before a successful solo career at the end of the decade.

However, in 1982, Pendergrass was severely injured in an auto accident in Philadelphia, resulting in his being paralyzed from the chest down. He subsequently founded the Teddy Pendergrass Alliance, a foundation that helps those with spinal cord injuries. He commemorated 25 years of living after his spinal cord injury with the star-filled event, "Teddy 25 - A Celebration of Life", at Philadelphia's Kimmel Center and his last performance was on a PBS special at Atlantic City's Borgata Casino in November 2008.

BBR (a subsidiary of Cherry Red Records) has now released an expanded and remastered edition of his 1979 album Teddy in a deluxe super jewel case with extensive liner notes and four bonus tracks.

His best album to date, in my humble opinion, Teddy was the third album by R&B crooner Pendergrass. Released on June 23rd, 1979, it included more bedroom ballads than his normal work. Two singles were released from the album: "Turn Off the Lights", which reached US Pop #48 and #2 on the R&B charts, and "Come Go With Me," which reached #14 R&B.

Teddy was also nominated for an American Music Award, Favorite Soul/R&B Album in 1980 and 1981. Known for his emotional vocal delivery and his passionate singing, Pendergrass followed a proven path on Teddy; one much loved still by his fans today.

1. 'Come Go with Me'
2. 'Turn off the Lights'
3. 'I'll Never See Heaven Again'
4. 'All I Need Is You'
5. 'If You Know Like I Know'
6. 'Do Me'
7. 'Set Me Free'
8. 'Life Is A Circle'

Bonus Tracks:
9. 'Turn Off The Lights' (Single Version)
10. 'Come Go With Me' (Single Version)
11. 'Do Me' (Single Version)
12. 'If You Know Like I Know' (Single Version)

The first song, the euphoric "Come Go with Me" is as lush as they come, and is backed by both the mid-tempo ballad "Turn off the Lights" and the slow roll of "I'll Never See Heaven Again". The begging letter within "All I Need Is You" is as sultry, as perfect now as it was back then, and is followed the uptown funk of "If You Know Like I Know" and the frenetic energy of 'Do Me'. The original album is then brought to a close by the epic, building 'Set Me Free', before the upbeat Caribbean disco funk of 'Life Is A Circle' finally wraps things up.

But, being as this is an Expanded Edition of this great album, after all, well, we have those four aforementioned tracks to now discover together. Sadly, I would hardly call them anything special, or even anything exciting, for they are all simply Single Version's of: 'Turn Off The Lights', 'Come Go With Me', 'Do Me' and then 'If You Know Like I Know'.
