Title - 'Verbier Festival - 25 Years of Excellence'
Artist - Various

The Verbier Festival is an international music festival that takes place annually for two weeks in late July and early August in the mountain resort of Verbier, Switzerland.

Since 1994, Verbier has been a platform for young musicians to learn from the world’s finest artists while offering audiences a unique festival.

Founded by Swedish expatriate Martin T:son Engström in 1994, it has attracted international soloists such as Piotr Anderszewski, Leif Ove Andsnes, Martha Argerich, Sergei Babayan, Lera Auerbach, Emanuel Ax, Hilary Hahn, Leonidas Kavakos, Evgeny Kissin, Lang Lang, Mischa Maisky, Lawrence Power, Thomas Quasthoff, Julian Rachlin, Anoushka Shankar, Bryn Terfel, Daniil Trifonov, Yuja Wang, Khatia Buniatishvili, András Schiff, and Julian Lloyd Webber.

The Verbier Festival is also nurturing young musicians with its Academy and three orchestras: the Verbier Festival Orchestra, the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra and the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra (formerly known as the Verbier Festival Music Camp Orchestra).

Now in celebration of 25 years of musical excellence, Deutsche Grammophon presents a Limited Edition 4CD set of unreleased live recordings from the Verbier Festival.

Featuring admired DG artists as Martha Argerich, Yevgeny Kissin, Mikhail Pletnev, Bryn Terfel, Daniil Trifonov, Yuja Wang and conductors Valery Gergiev, Gustavo Dudamel, Kent Nagano, and Kurt Masur in performances of both core classics and lesser-known works from the orchestral, concert, chamber and operatic repertoires, Verbier Festival - 25 Years of Excellence (out August 10th, 2018) comes within a beautiful hardcover box that includes a 32 page booklet (French, English and German) with a note by Julian Sykes and a Foreword by the Festival’s founder, musical and executive director, Martin T:son Engström.

This Limited Edition 4CD set of unreleased live recordings from the Verbier Festival is an amazing, simply amazing collection of works that has to be heard to be believed.

Featuring admired Deutsche Grammophon artists such as Martha Argerich, Evgeny Kissin, Bryn Terfel, Mikhaïl Pletnev, Yuja Wang, Daniil Trifonov, and conductors Valery Gergiev, Gustavo Dudamel, Kent Nagano and Kurt Masur, the recordings are crisp, are magnificent, are detailed and are orchestrated in such a way that you would swear they had to have been made within the confines of a stuffy studio.

As aforementioned, 25 years ago, Martin T:son Engstroem, the Verbier Festival’s Founder, had an idea to establish a workshop open to the skies, a place for exchanging knowledge, passion and interests.

Meeting and sharing: these two words are a constant thread throughout not only this magnificent 4CD and 32 page booklet set, but a brand new book being published to celebrate the Festival’s 25th anniversary.

I mention this as you should also be aware of it, given that you are reading this review, of course. Releasing in November of 2018, the idea is to recount the Festival’s beginnings, its key moments, its financial challenges, and, beyond that, to convey its spirit by way of first-hand accounts drawn from a selection of interviews.

The story of 25 years of music at the top is brought to life with photographs of the Festival’s most captivating moments. Pre-order it today on the Verbier Festival website.
