Title - Stardust + Satellites
Artist - Steve Poltz
For those not in the know, veteran troubadour Steve Poltz has just released his new album, STARDUST AND SATELLITES, today via Red House Records.
Produced by Oliver Wood and Jano Rix of The Wood Brothers, STARDUST AND SATELLITES is Poltz’s 14th studio album and comprises another exuberant, thoughtful batch of songs that celebrate life in all of its stages.
Throughout over three decades in music, Steve Poltz has done it all and more. He even co-wrote Jewel’s Hot 100-topping megahit “You Were Meant For Me,” fronted ‘90s underground legends The Rugburns and has built a huge cult following for his solo tours.
A gonzo entertainer, storyteller and prolific collaborator (Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, to name just two), Poltz, now in Nashville, enlisted members of The Wood Brothers for STARDUST AND SATELLITES.
It’s an album dealing with loss (he’s lost both parents in the past two years), simple joys and childhood memories — summer baseball games, a stint he did with Up With People, and more.
1. Wrong Town
2. Conveyor Belt
3. Can O’Pop
4. Frenemy
5. It’s Baseball Season
6. Up With People
7. Lord and Savior
8. Let’s Stay Together
9. Miles In My Heart
10. Stardust and Satellites
This vibrantly alive, creatively heartfelt album opens on the joyously fervent storytelling of Wrong Town and the lusciously orchestrated Conveyor Belt, and backs those up with the jaunty Americana alt-rock of Can O’Pop, the spun gossamer of Frenemy and then come the perky fun of It’s Baseball Season and the rhythmic foot tapper Up With People (Back in High School I loved you, but I didn’t have the courage to tell you. Because I was high on Quaaludes and listening to Foreigner).
Up next is the quietly frenetic posture of the Gospel-imbed Lord and Savior and that is itself followed by the earthy balladry of Let’s Stay Together, the album rounding out on the delightfully jaunty Miles In My Heart, coming to an all too soon close on the diligently crafted, unfeigned balladry of the title track Stardust and Satellites.
