Liar’s Moon (Special Edition) [Blu-ray]
(Matt Dillon, Cindy Fisher, Hoyt Axton, Richard Moll, Yvonne DeCarlo, et al / Blu-ray / NR / (1981) 2022 / MVD Visual)

Overview: Matt Dillon plays Jack Duncan, an athletic, hardworking boy from the small town of Noble, Texas. Jack is happy just enjoying himself with the local boys, until he meets Ginny Peterson (Cindy Fisher, Hide in Plain Sight, The Blues Brothers), the towns wealthiest young lady.

Despite their obviously different backgrounds, Jack and Ginny fall desperately in love.

Even though their parents have forbidden them to meet, Jack and Ginny sneak out, and finally elope, hoping to find happiness far from their hometown.

But theirs is a love that falls prey to the sins of their elders - as the intrigue of two families reaches out an angry hand to its innocent victim in this touching, tragic story of youth, love and hope.

Blu-ray Verdict: In what turned out to be a very interesting story, and of which has some elements of Lone Star thrown in for good measure, but then diverges, Matt Dillon plays a high school boy from an ordinary farming family in 1949 Texas.

He and the banker’s daughter get sweet on each other but the banker does whatever he can to keep them apart. So they elope to Louisiana while still 17, he gets a job as a pipeline laborer, they fall ever deeper in love, then after 3 months she finds out she is pregnant.

Meanwhile the banker dad has hired a two-bit detective to find and bring his daughter back. He catches up with them about the time her new doctor calls her old doctor for medical records, only to find out the banker has apparently fathered both of the young couple ... yup, they are half-siblings and, as it turns out, that’s exactly why he was trying to keep them apart!

So the only solution is an abortion. In a silly scene at night, after an illegal backroom procedure leaves young wife bleeding and in serious danger, the two-bit detective tries to run them off the road as Dillon’s character tries to get her to a hospital.

Turns out Dillon’s mother had also lied and colluded with the nurse to switch blood types of the possible fathers, and Dillon and his young wife were not related after all!

In closing, the young wife recovers, and we see that they will live happily ever after, thus, the moral of this story is not only to do your homework, and not to believe everything that is told to you, but also to understand the sins attached to the lies of a mother and father; and what they can do to a son and daughter.
