Title - 'Siren Songs'
Artist - Siren Songs
For those not in the know, Siren Songs is the brand-new musical collaboration between Merideth Kaye Clark and Jenn Grinels and they have just released their very first album, the eponymous Siren Songs, on May 29th, 2020.
Featuring powerhouse vocalists, musicians, and national touring artists, the longtime best friends showcase gorgeous harmonies and unique arrangements performed on a variety of stringed instruments (banjo, dulcimer, viola) here on the quite breathtaking Siren Songs.
1. 'Goodnight Sun, Hello Moon'
5. 'Chelsea Morning'
7. 'Angel From Montgomery'
8. 'For Good'
9. 'Time After Time'
The album opens with the lush, ornate American beauty of 'Goodnight Sun, Hello Moon' which they back seamlessly with a banjo-inspired cover of Dolly Partonís classic 'Jolene.' [The song was selected by Parton herself and Netflix as their favorite rendition during the #JoleneChallenge].
That's followed by the well known lullaby for a white flower found high in the Austrian Alps, and which was also the inspiration for the Waltz, a wonderfully gentle, dulcet rendition of 'Edelweiss.'
The balladeering harmonies of the acoustic guitar-led '100' is one of my own personal favorites here, and then the tempo is stoked up for the foot-tappin' Joni Mitchell track 'Chelsea Morning.'
Next comes the affable elegance of the alluring 'Gray,' another banjo-inspired rendition, this time of John Prine's 'Angel From Montgomery,' and then this delightfully perfect album rounds out with a delicate rendition of 'For Good' (from 'Wicked'), and then a stirringly ambient cover of the timeless Cyndi Lauper ballad, 'Time After Time' closes the album.
Featuring a mix of both original songs written by Grinels ('Goodnight Sun, Hello Moon,' '100,' and 'Gray'), as well as a selection of folk and Americana favorites, Siren Songs is already one of my Top 10 albums of 2020!
