Title - 'Chasing Mavericks (Original Soundtrack)'
Artist - Various
Relativity Music Group has just-released the original motion picture soundtrack of Chasing Mavericks, a collection of songs, mostly from the 1990s, that is the perfect accompaniment to a movie about the surfing scene of those years.
The album kicks off with the guitar stream of 'Plowed' by Sponge, and then gives us both the tuneful pop of 'Brimful Of Asha' by Cornershop and the electronica of Mazzy Star's seductive 'Blue Light.'
Next is one of my all-time favorite tracks from Matthew Sweet, his pop-loaded funk track 'Girlfriend,' with the deeper, darker Butthole Surfers' 'Pepper' tagging along next for the musical ride. Then comes the funky guitar work behind 'Start Choppin' from Dinosaur Jr, with another track from Mazzy Star; their more known ballad 'Fade Into You' thereafter.
The Lemonheads and 'Into Your Arms' is next, with the flashback album being brought into the final bend by 'I Need An Energy.' A brand new single by the Scottish born singer-songwriter, Greg Holden, who took the American music scene by storm after co-writing 'Home,' the debut single of American Idol-winner Phillip Phillips, it is then followed by the album closer, the 'Chasing Mavericks Score Suite' by Chad Fischer (who also wrote the music for the indie movie Garden State).
