Lindsey Buckingham - Songs From the Small Machine
(Lindsey Buckingham / DVD / NR / 2011 / Eagle Eye Media)

Overview: Filmed in high definition at an exclusive show at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills in April this year, Songs From The Small Machine captures Lindsey Buckingham showcasing tracks from his new studio album Seeds We Sow, songs from across his solo career and Fleetwood Mac classics.

DVD Verdict: In truth, I have not had the chance to see Lindsey live on a solo tour. But a couple years ago when Fleetwood Mac came to town I bourght front row seats - right in front of where he plays/stands on stage! Turns out the first three rows was actually a "pit area" (sweet bonus) so my wife and I just stood right in front of him all night ... mesmerized!

To my mind, Lindsey has to be one of the greatest guitar players EVER. Under-rated, often over-looked (or not mentioned when discussing great guitarists), 'Lindsey Buckingham: Songs from the Small Machine - Live in L.A.' isn't a perfect capturing of the man and his craft - but the performance sure is!

To appreciate him fully, Lindsey Buckingham must be heard/seen live, it's as simple as that. And this show is one of the best I've seen live on DVD in many a long year - but that's all down to Lindsey being the main component, of course!

'Songs from the Small Machine' lovingly features tracks from both Fleetwood Mac and his solo career. The show opens with acoustic performances of five of his best songs, after which his band joins him on stage for 13 more tracks. These include, "Shut Us Down," "Go Insane," "Trouble," "Never Going Back Again," "Big Love," "Under the Skin," "All My Sorrows," "In Our Own Time," "Illumination," "Second Hand News," a quite brilliant "Tusk," "Stars Are Crazy," "End of Time," "That's the Way Love Goes," "I'm So Afraid," "Go Your Own Way," "Turn It On," "Treason," with the encore song being the acoustic gem, "Seeds We Sow."

A man, an artist who is still ovious (so) grateful for both of his co-existing careers, he is such a pleasure to behold. A true musical craftsman at work, 'Lindsey Buckingham - Songs From the Small Machine' is there for all to enjoy ... so please do just that! This is a Full Screen Presentation (1.66:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
