Shaun The Sheep: We Wish Ewe A Merry Christmas
(DVD / NR / 2016 / LGF)

Overview: Frolic with the flock as they decorate the farmhouse for the Farmer, watch Bitzer and Pidsley battle for a spot by the fire, join a massive snowball fight and much more in these 7 hilarious episodes from Shaun's second series!

DVD Verdict: For those not in the know, 'Shaun the Sheep' is a British stop-motion animated television series, a spin-off of the Wallace and Gromit franchise. The series stars Shaun, a sheep previously featured in the 1995 short film A Close Shave and in the Shopper 13 episode from the 2002 Wallace and Gromit's Cracking Contraptions series, and his madcap adventures around a small farm as the leader of his flock.

Having first aired in the UK on CBBC in March 2007 and broadcast in 180 countries globally, the series consists of 150 seven-minute episodes. The fifth season contains 20 episodes and has been aired in the Netherlands from December 1st, 2015 until January 1st, 2016.

Here in 'Shaun The Sheep: We Wish Ewe A Merry Christmas' we get 7 hilarious episodes from Shaun's second series, but please know that though all of the episodes are funny, there is only one Christmas episode and only two others that have anything to do with winter! Oh, and these episodes all came out back in 2011, so be aware you might already have them on a five year-old DVD somewhere in your collection.

Moving on and in the very first episode, "We Wish Ewe a Merry Christmas" we quickly discover that the Farmer loves Christmas! Indeed, he dresses up like Father Christmas and gives each one of his barnyard animals a special Christmas gift. Part of the episode flashes back to the Farmer as he was growing up and showing the absolute joy he has for the holiday.

However, this year the Farmer will be spending Christmas alone and this saddens him greatly. The flock decides to do something about the Farmer's sadness and go about making Christmas decorations, cutting down a tree, decorating his house, and getting him gifts so that he won't feel so bad come Christmas morning.

- "We Wish Ewe a Merry Christmas"
- "Snowed In"
- "Fireside Favorite"
- "An Ill Wind"
- "Bitzer's New Hat"
- "Chip Off the Old Block"
- "Shirley Whirley"

There's a lot of humor in these episodes and a whole lot of heart, especially in that opening one. In a short six-and-a-half minutes, this little cartoon brilliantly displays what the spirit of Christmas is about. Though the message of Jesus's birth is not displayed at all in the episode, the grace, hope, and joy that that birth brought into the world is clearly illustrated and displayed.

The other six episodes all have their special little messages, sure, but this opening one is the bees knees, as they say. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:

"Sheep-Shearing Game"
"Timmy's Tune #1"
