Looking for the Full Moon, Volume 2
(Chieko Honda, Yasuo Saito, myco, et al / 2-Disc Blu-ray / NR / 2025 / AnimEigo)
Overview: As 12-year-old cancer patient Mitsuki continues to lead a magical double life as an up-and-coming idol singer, things are starting to fray. Her shinigami Takuto may have more of a connection to her than she realized, and her real body is starting to give out. Is this really the end of a little girl and her dream?
Based on Arina Tanemura’s beloved manga series, Looking for the Full Moon packs an incredible, emotional finale that will stick with you for years afterward. Contains the second half of the show, episodes 27-52, with its complete English dub for the very first time!
Blu-ray Verdict: Personally, I think Full Moon is one of the best anime’s I have watched in a long while. It was funny, a tear-jerker, the romance seemed cute and gave you a happy feeling when you watched it. The show felt like a roller coaster. So may emotions. They were all just going up and down.
For the funny parts, I think most of the scenes with Meroko were funny. There’s a lot of funny parts in the show, though. That’s just one of the ones I can remember right off the bat.
Obviously, when we find out Eichi died is the tear-jerker. I didn’t cry, but it was very emotional. Mitsuki tried so hard to find him, but in the end, it was all in vain. Plus, you can feel all the pain that she had gone through. And when Mitsuki gets depressed, I felt very bad for her also.
As for the romance, I really liked it. I thought Mitsuki and Takuto made a very cute couple. Eichi and Mitsuki did too, but I prefer Mitsuki and Takuto. I remember the scene where she’s like Why do you do always do things for me? and he said, ’Cuz I like you!, but Mitsuki thought he meant it in the friend way.
And then, she would reply, Oh! I like you, too! You’re such a great friend! (not the exact quote, but the best from what I remember) I felt bad for him; he just confessed his feelings, but Mitsuki took it the wrong way. But, when he finally (for real) confessed his feelings and kissed her, it was so cute. I was really happy when that happened.
In fact, and in truth, that happy feeling happened a lot through this second set of episodes along with the entire series. I don’t know how to describe it, but this anime just puts such a big smile on your face, and always at the right moments. I think the character development was great. Almost every single character had a layered background to them and you really learn about them as the series progresses.
That was one of the best things about the series. I enjoyed most of the character’s personalities, except, perhaps, for one little thing. When Mitsuki got depressed, I thought she was so annoying, bratty, and acting way too overly dramatic. I mean, I understand that you get REALLY sad about it if the love of your life dies, but she was over doing it, in my humble opinion.
Overall, the series was almost perfect, but it had too many filler moments, if I am being honest (which I am). There are 52 episodes and I felt that there should have been maybe 42 or some such lower number. I remember one episode where this stone thing prevented Meroko and Takuto from being with Mitsuki and they wasted a whole entire episode about it. Some filler episodes where cute though, sure, but some didn’t need to be in the series.
The manga was really good, also, but for some reason, I like the anime better. From what I’ve seen online, a lot of people prefer the manga over the anime. The thing with manga is that it goes into way too much detail of minor characters instead of focusing on the main characters. There isn’t anything really too bad about that, but it gets a little bit too draggy every now and again.
Overall, I love this anime. I think almost anyone could watch it and enjoy it because it is just THAT GOOD!
