Win 'TONY 'N TINA'S WEDDING' on DVD ... NOW!
Starring Adrian Grenier ('Entourage," "The
Devil Wears Prada"), Mila Kunis ("Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "That 70s
Show") and Joey McIntyre (New Kids on the Block), the long-awaited movie
version of 'TONY N' TINA'S WEDDING' makes its way onto DVD on July 15th.
Inspired by the legendary and long-running off-Broadway play, Roger
Paradiso's directorial debut keeps the unorthodox spirit of the original
stage production. Reminiscent of Christopher Guest's films, 'TONY N' TINA'S WEDDING' takes a satirical "look" inside the madness of weddings and family
dynamics, and spares no one in this front-pew spectacle that is at once
funny and perhaps painfully familiar.
Tony (McIntyre) and Tina (Kunis) are deeply in love, but the
larger-than-life personalities of their Italian families make for a chaotic,
combustible energy destined to ignite mayhem on the couple's blissful day.
Tina's mother disapproves of Tony's family, especially his father who runs a
seedy strip club. Tony's father wants his reluctant son to join the family
business, and has an odd idea of what is appropriate wedding reception
entertainment. Tina's bridesmaids have a flair for the déclassé, as one
drinks while pregnant and the other flirts with the band's lead singer over
her boyfriend's objections.
Cut to Tina's ex-boyfriend Michael (Grenier),
who crashes the wedding, and whose lingering feelings for the bride threaten
to derail the ceremony – that is, unless Tony's drug-dealer friend can get
the jilted boyfriend too stoned to care. As the day unravels, the wedding
spirals into a hilarious circus, but one that may be too much for the
newlyweds to handle. Can their fledgling relationship survive their
families' antics? Paradiso's skillful scripting, Altmanesque framing, and
talented cast meld into a touching, comedic take on the tension between
family ties and a couple's love.
As the second-longest running off-Broadway show of all time, 'TONY N' TINA'S WEDDING' is best known for its use of the audience as members of the wedding
party. The movie cleverly duplicates that scenario through the subjective
lens of one of its characters, Raphael, the film student-wedding
videographer, whose camera always seems to be at the wrong place at the
right time. This enables the viewer to share a similar vantage point as the
handheld camera swerves and swoops, capturing the unfolding events in
cinema-verité style. The film effectively combines scripted scenarios with
improvisation, as extended rehearsals allowed the actors to familiarize
themselves intimately with their characters.
The street date of the much-anticipated 'Tony n' Tina's Wedding' DVD is July 15.
