HOME OF WAXEN WARES HOME OF WAXEN WARES

Hello ... and welcome everyone to our brand new WAXEN WARES CANDLES website, www.WaxenWares.com

Come see all our wonderful candles at this years Michigan Renaissance Festival 2015, from late-August (weekends) thru to thru October 4th (including Festival Friday on October 2nd!) Everyone has a great time here at the Festival and aside from my sales page, this is truly the one-stop shopping event for you - if you think you would like some of my unique, handcrafted candles!

Waxen Wares Candles & Creator Steve Replogle:
My candle story begins in the 1960's when I was about nine. My mom was melting paraffin wax on the stove to seal jelly jars and I arrived with a piece of string to dip into the wax. I don't think that she let me, but always happy to encourage my interests, I was soon set up in the basement with a double boiler, boxes of paraffin and our old crayon collection for color.

I spent many, many hours over the next few years passionately filling Dixie cups and all variety of containers with wax and dipping tapers on racks - which I sold when I could and gave away as gifts.

Given this history, I felt a sense of destiny when at age 20 I met up with the people who had developed the candle sculpting technique I've now been using ever since.

The sculpting process begins by dipping layers of colored wax from my ten tank wax melter. After what I call "lunks" and "sheets" of wax are dipped, I keep them softened in a hot water tank beside my candle bench. I work the softened wax in front of a heat lamp using a few simple tools. When finished the candle is put into a cool water tank.

Each candle is unique in expression and shows signs of the sculpting process. Up to 130 layers within each candle gives it more strength than a poured candle, but of course it's wax and care should be taken in handling! Keep the candles out of reach of the sun and in rooms below 100 degrees ... and out of the reach of cats!

For nearly 3 decades I have sold my candles almost exclusively in my booth at the Michigan Renaissance Festival and even though that is now over you can still buy these wonderful items here today!

In recent years there has been a growing chorus for a website where my candles may be purchased year-round. Through the auspices of longtime patron, supporter and web wizard, Russell Trunk and his website www.ExclusiveMagazine.com, this dream of mine is now coming to fruition. I will be adding more wares to the site as we navigate our way so stay focused.

Thanks for visiting and enjoy!
Sincerely,

Steve
