Title - 'Global Soul' (Putumayo)
Artist - Various
Global Soulis, as it sounds, an intriguing compilation that Putumayo assembled in 2002 of contemporary Soul and R&B from around the world. As most of the artists are African Diaspora living in Europe, Africa, and South America, most of the lyrics are not in English. On this special blend of contemporary world music, where quality and innovation are essential, the listener can hear modern R&B being performed in everything from French (Melgroove's 'J'attendrai'), Italian (Traccia Mista's 'Senza Trucco') and German (Joy Denalane's 'Höchste Zeit'), all the way through to the Douala language of Cameroon (Kaïssa's 'Nika Pata Lambo'). This is most definitely 'Globalization' at its best and yet another way that Putumayo Records has firmly placed themselves in the forefront of musical awareness.
