Title - Deadpool & Wolverine (Original Soundtrack) [2LP]
Artist - Various

As wild and unpredictable as its accompanying film, the Deadpool & Wolverine soundtrack is a pop culture tornado that somehow ends up working, despite the seeming randomness of the songs selected. Where else might one find *NSYNC, the Platters, Avril Lavigne, Huey Lewis, Patsy Cline, and Stray Kids on one compilation?

It doesn’t make much sense on paper, but viewers will be immediately transported back into theaters, reliving key scenes with these deviously appropriate choices, from a hyper-violent dance sequence and a touching moment of brotherly love to a hilarious (blood-soaked) montage for the most hardcore comics fans and a slow-motion, love-at-first-sight moment between man and beast!

Like the movie’s fourth-wall-breaking anti-hero, things get meta with The Greatest Show (from Hugh Jackman’s The Greatest Showman) and very wink-wink with The Power of Love (from the Back to the Future soundtrack). Even though Madonna’s Like a Prayer doesn’t appear here, dedicated listeners could easily create their own wacky playlist, which is exactly how this track-list looks at first glance.

As the tears start flowing to the opening chords of Green Day’s Good Riddance (stay for the credits!), you’ll just be glad you took the time to flashback to the movie via this incredible music compilation.

Side A:
1. Only You (And You Alone) – Performed by The Platters
2. Bye Bye Bye – Performed by *NSYNC
3. Angel of The Morning – Performed by Merrilee Rush & The Turnabouts
4. SLASH – Performed by Stray Kids
5. Glamorous – Performed by Fergie

Side B:
6. Iris – Performed by The Goo Goo Dolls
7. The Power Of Love – Performed by Huey Lewis & The News
8. I’m a Ramblin’ Man – Performed by Waylon Jennings
9. You Belong To Me – Performed by Patsy Cline (Featuring The Jordanaires)

Side C:
1. The Lady In Red – Performed by Chris de Burgh
2. I’m with You – Performed by Avril Lavigne
3. The Greatest Show – Performed by Hugh Jackman, Keala Settle, Zac Efron, Zendaya and The Greatest Showman Ensemble
4. You’re The One That I Want – Performed by Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta

Side D:
5. I’ll Be Seeing You – Performed by Jimmy Durante
6. Make Me Lose Control – Performed by Eric Carmen
7. You’re All I Need to Get By (with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) – Performed by Aretha Franklin
8. Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) – Performed by Green Day
9. LFG (Theme from Deadpool & Wolverine) – Performed by Rob Simonsen

I have to say that I personally LOVE this brilliant soundtrack to the completely whack-a-doo movie! The song selection was on the level of GotG, for sure, in my humble opinion and flows incredibly well with tracks such as Like a Prayer, Iris, Power of Love, Good Riddance and, of course, Bye Bye Bye leading the way.

OK, sure, You’re The One That I Want feels a little bit trope, the classic song being used cinematically inappropriately re: an upbeat song playing over an over the top violent scene (a gag that Shaun of the Dead popularized, of course), but that aside, it rivals the Suicide Squad (2016) soundtrack, that’s for sure.

On the other hand, some songs like Make Me Lose Control or I’m a Ramblin’ Man felt quite natural and suited the scenes they accompanied to perfection. I mean, the aforementioned GotG soundtrack was great because it was seamlessly diagetic to the film (mainly through Peter’s old Walkman), and here whilst not all the tracks stick their landings, majoritively they do and are well suited for movie; even complimenting it.
