Title - 'The Classics' (Columbia Records)
Artist - Tony Bennett

My goodness! With over a half century of hits to his name and an impressive 17 Grammy Awards, Tony Bennett's career is a true master class pm how to musically accomplish the so-called "popular standard." Indeed, this new compilation, The Classics; which also comes in a Deluxe Edition form, allows the showman to showcase 20 iconic compositions.

Now in his seventh decade as a recording artist, Bennett continues to bring forth musical triumphs whilst topping the charts each and every well-deserved time. Indeed, his Duets II (2011) album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Pop Chart making music history to achieve a #1 album at the age of 85!

Here on The Classics, Bennett records/performs some of his own most beloved recordings, including solo smashes 'I Left My Heart in San Francisco,' 'How Do You Keep the Music Playing' and 'When Do the Bells Ring for Me,' as well as duets ranging from the likes of Frank Sinatra ('New York, New York') and K.D. Lang ('What a Wonderful World') even on through to Lady Gaga ('The Lady Is A Tramp' - don't say it, just don't!) and Christina Aguilera on 'Steppin' Out With My Baby.'

Raised in NYC as Anthony Dominick Benedetto, the better-known Bennett may well be known for his standards, show tunes, and jazz, but did you also know he is an accomplished painter? Indeed, he has created works — under the name Anthony Benedetto — that are on permanent public display in several institutions. He is also the founder of the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in New York City. I just thought I'd end with that as I think it's a nice tribute to the man - to know a little bit more than what you expected to read.
