Title - Colors of Time
Artist - Sergio Pereira

For those unaware, born in Rio de Janeiro and shaped by the musical language of bossa nova and samba, guitarist, vocalist, and composer Sergio Pereira has developed a distinct voice that bridges Brazilian tradition with a broader international jazz perspective. Early exposure to the music of João Gilberto, Tom Jobim, Carlos Lyra, and João Donato established a foundation that continues to inform his writing, particularly in its emphasis on melody, phrasing, and rhythmic clarity.

After relocating to New York in the 1980s, Pereira deepened his studies with established jazz guitarists including Chuck Wayne, Sal Salvador, Alex Adrian, and Hui Cox—an experience that expanded his harmonic approach while reinforcing his connection to Brazilian forms.

Since the 1990s, he has maintained an active international presence, performing across Europe, Africa, and the United States while collaborating with a wide range of artists including Mark Egan, Kim Nazarian, Helio Alves, Romero Lubambo, Ivan “Melon” Lewis, and Mauricio Zottarelli.

Across a series of recordings — Swingando, Nu Brasil, Finesse, and Bossa+ — Pereira has established a consistent musical identity rooted in Brazilian rhythm while gradually expanding his compositional scope. His work has been recognized with multiple Global Music Awards and World Entertainment Awards, reflecting both artistic continuity and evolving direction.

That trajectory continues with Colors of Time, where Pereira brings his Brazilian foundation into a more integrated and forward-looking context, focusing on clarity, balance, and a more defined musical purpose — ultimately shaping a cohesive, intention - led statement where samba, bossa nova, and jazz function as interconnected expressions of renewal and awareness.

1. SO THEY SLEEP (5:40)
2. DREAMS (5:50)
3. COLORS OF TIME (3:34)
4. BRIGHTNESS OF YOU (4:35)
5. UP THE HILL (5:26)
6. THE CLOCK IS TICKING (5:22)
7. KEEP SHINING (3:47)
8. RAIN FALL (4:18)

With Pereira orchestrating his Brazilian foundation into a cohesive, intention-led statement here on this wondrous new recording, he opens on the colorful hipsway of SO THEY SLEEP and the smoothly crafted DREAMS and then we are gifted the free flowing musical majesties of the titular COLORS OF TIME and the soft R&B vibe of BRIGHTNESS OF YOU.

Along next is the infectiously rhythmic UP THE HILL which is itself backed seamlessly by the affecting beauty of THE CLOCK IS TICKING, the emotively impassioned KEEP SHINING, coming to a close on the compellingly melodious RAIN FALL.

On Colors of Time, Sergio Pereira orchestrates his Brazilian foundation into a cohesive, intention-led statement—where samba, bossa nova, and jazz function as interconnected expressions of renewal and awareness. “This project reflects my journey…with the intent to heal the soul from negativity and the times we are living in,” Pereira notes — an idea that informs both the emotional arc and the musical design of the album.
