Scarred but Smarter Life N Times of Drivin N Cryin
(Drivin N Cryin / DVD / NR / 2016 / MVD Visual)

Overview: What is rock & roll success? How is it measured? The story of Drivin N Cryin, a band that has enjoyed a loyal following for nearly 30 years in the southeast, but remains unknown to the rest of the world, is examined for clues and answers.

DVD Verdict: Directed by Eric Von Haessler (The Greenskeeper, 2012, CSNY/Déjà Vu, 2008), this brand new, warts an' all story on the American hard rock/Southern rock band from Atlanta, Georgia is as good as it gets within this business, trust me.

The band was formed in 1985 in Atlanta. Kevn Kinney hooked up with Frank French at Frank's recording studio, "Dragon Path Music" working on his original songs there at night and working, at times, at Frank's shop "Far East Futon Company", also in Atlanta.

Kevn also hooked up with Tim Nielsen, who was in a popular band called the Nightporters with drummer Paul Lenz at the time. Kinney had just moved to Georgia from Milwaukee and was working in a sewage treatment plant by day while playing folk gigs by night. The band’s name, Drivin’ N’ Cryin’, was chosen from one of Kevn’s many songs that reflected the two directions of their music.

Here in 'Scarred but Smarter: Life N Times of Drivin N Cryin', director Von Haessler spent three years looking for reasons why his favorite band, the aforementioned Drivin N Cryin, hadn't enjoyed more national success. With the help of fellow fans Peter Buck, Darius Rucker, Ed Roland, Ty Pennington, Jason Isbell and others, throughout the documentary he uncovers the fascinating, behind-the-scenes story of a band that has spent the last 28 years both creating great music AND making questionable career moves!

Along the way he finds (as we do) that Drivin N Cryin is a true rock and roll success story, even today, but the light he now shines most definitely gives us, fans of loud rock and roll a much deeper, more defined appreciation of one of rock history's hardest working bands. Featuring album tracks and videos, live performances and interviews from the past and present, along with never-before-seen archival footage, 'Scarred but Smarter Life N Times of Drivin N Cryin' is a real work of art in and unto itself. Oh, and by the way, this film is rated "L" for LOUD!! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Feature of full-length live performances and new music videos.
