The Forever Purge [Blu-ray + DVD + Digital]
(Ana de la Reguera, Tenoch Huerta, Cassidy Freeman, Leven Rambin, Josh Lucas, et al / Blu-ray + DVD + Digital / R / 2021 / Universal Pictures Home Entertainment)

Overview: One night is not enough as members of an underground movement, no longer satisfied with the annual night of anarchy and murder, decide to overtake America through an unending campaign of mayhem and massacre.

No one is safe. On the morning after The Purge, a masked gang of killers attacks a wealthy Texas ranching family and their workers.

Exposed by daylight, the two families are forced to band together and fight back as the country spirals into chaos and the United States begins to disintegrate around them.

Blu-ray Verdict: In truth, as we know, at some level, the movies in The Purge series have an undercurrent of socio-economic, racial, and political issues. Indeed it is rare to receive a narrative from the disenfranchised in the American south.

However, this installment of The Purge series does justice by the original inhabitants of the United States, particularly in and around the state of Texas.

As The Forever Purge opens, we see a Mexican couple, Juan and Adela, crossing into the US illegally. We then move to ten months later when it is only one day until the annual Purge.

Juan works on a big Texas ranch and there are tensions between the ranch owners and the hired hands (not just Juan). The 12 hour Purge comes and goes without much of anything happening, but then the shocker comes: white trash refuse to end the Purge, turning it into a Forever Purge, with the goal of purifying the country of all non-Americans, and taking over the business from the filthy rich; like Texas ranch owners.

As I am sure you are all aware by now, this is the fifth Purge movie and a direct sequel to Purge: Election Year (2016) and this movie was mostly written and filmed in 2019 (with an original intended release for Summer 2020).

In other words, way before the January 6th, 2021 insurrection by the Trump supporters, who would indeed love nothing better than to purify the US of all immigrants (both legal and illegal) and grab ownership of their businesses!

Indeed, this film pretty much shows us what would happen if the January 6th insurrection was not just one city, but had played out all over the country.

In my humble opinion, the Purge movies have always done something right as the casting is usually solid, with interesting choices for leading roles. Which means it is effectively disturbing at times and much of that is simply because the main characters are all well cast and mostly sympathetic.

But for The Forever Purge, writer James DeMonaco has most definitely taken the gloves off for this is a brutal, unflinching, violent action crime thriller with plenty of gore for the horror fans out there.

The production value is through the roof also with some incredible set pieces, all chock full with an array of mayhem, destruction and plenty of pyrotechnics.

The Purge franchise has always been an intriguing one with the series having explored several hot button topics and here in this latest installment the director Everardo Gout certainly shows a lot of skill when bringing eve just a little tension to the proceedings.

Complete with a gripping score courtesy of the Newton Brothers, The Forever Purge has a very solid cast and features some highly intense action sequences and all combined with DeMonaco’s takedown of white supremacists, makes this fast-paced entry in The Purge franchise one of its best. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
