The Resonator: Miskatonic U
(Christina Helene Braa, Amanda Jones, Michael Pare, Amanda Wyss, Dan Oliver, et al / Blu-ray / NR / 2021 / Full Moon Pictures)

Overview: Genre superstars Michael Pare (STREETS OF FIRE, EDDIE AND THE CRUISERS), Amanda Wyss (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH) and Empire Pictures alumni Jeffrey Byron (THE DUNGEONMASTER, METALSTORM) join a cast of attractive newcomers in this tale of visionary Miskatonic University student Crawford Tillinghast, who follows in his late father’s footsteps and becomes obsessed with completing work on The Resonator, an inter-dimensional device that opens doorways to other worlds.

With the aid of his closest friends, they manage to get the machine and running ... with terrifying results! Full of exciting, sensual visuals and bursting with atmosphere THE RESONATOR: MISKATONIC U is Full Moon at its most fearsome.

Turn on, tune in and freak out!

Blu-ray Verdict: OK, I guess I should say this from the off, bit I am a HUGE Lovecraft fan and a fan of Full Moon cheesiness, so this hit all the right notes for me!

The Resonator: Miskatonic U tells the story of From Beyond, but with plenty of its own twists and additions and yet offers love to its predecessors in ways I really appreciated.

The colors were the same as the movie, and sometimes Dane Oliver just nailed that early 20th century cadence and behavior and the female characters seem like actual characters, and not just eye candy to be the next so-called refrigerator girl.

Sure, there are problems with the graphics, but that goes along with B-movies, in general, and personally, I actually liked the obviousness of the succubus, because - in a way - it added to the horror: if you saw what just looked like a cosplayer, would you be frightened of it?

The design of the resonating machine itself had almost a Geiger feel to it, and still looked like it fit directly in the Lovecraft mythos.

No spoilers, but I must say the very end scene had me shouting in enjoyment, because it was such a great character cameo, and I really hope it means updates to the stories that said-same cameo originates.

I mean, the actor in question really nailed it too, and my fellow Lovecraftians will understand exactly what I mean, and my imploding passion for this end scene when they see it, trust me!

In closing, sure, this film is not for everyone, not by a long shot, for it is very niche, but for those who enjoy that Heavenly slice of niche, it is probably one of the best Lovecraft movies you will have scene in a long, long time. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Extra Features of:
